Many people might say, “Why should it bother you if two unmarried people consent to sex and it’s not hurting anyone else?” or “Why do you care what people do in their private lives? What they do in private doesn’t affect anyone else.” These are two justifications commonly used to defend what Scripture calls sexual immorality.

Should Christians be quiet as soon as the defense statement is spoken in relation to sex outside of a marriage between a biological male and female, or should they confront sexual immorality with grace and truth?

To want to read and understand God’s word is a very noble intention. However, until action is taken, this intention will remain an intention without any substantive value to you. Billy Graham said, “I have never seen a useful Christian who is not a student of the Bible.”

Reading the Bible is work, and as such, we should be ready to be diligent and disciplined enough to read and study the scriptures. D. A. Carson said that when we read the scriptures, we are dealing with God’s thoughts; we are obligated to take the greatest pains to truly understand them and explain them clearly.

An unreached people group includes people that are least-reached people with the gospel. A group of people are unreached when they have few or no believing Christians and resources to evangelize each other. In other words, an unreached people group will not hear the gospel unless someone from the outside of their people group comes to declare God’s wondrous works to them. Therefore, we must be ready to go to the unreached peoples and tell them about Jesus Christ’s redemptive work, or else they perish (2 Thessalonians 1:5-9, John 3:36, Revelation 20:15).

Over 1600 verses in the Bible talk about God’s passion for every tribe, tongue, and nation to know him and give him glory. God’s passion for the nations is evident throughout the Bible. He desires all people to see his glory and give him praise. “Missions exist because worship does not,” echoes John Piper. The goal of missions is to see people from every tribe, tongue, and nation worship our Great God (Psalm 67:1-4). Psalm 96:3 also reads, “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”

You must have encountered churches in Kenya that do weekly deliverance services, either across the street or on some TV channel. Week in and week out, the pastors of these churches are usually caught up in battles with demons and dark forces. Members of the congregations of these churches will be either screaming, falling or rolling on the ground in response to the man of God’s ferocious commands. However, if one was to observe closely, it is often the same people being delivered repeatedly. But what is the goal of these services, their genuineness and the biblical stance?

God has identified himself using the masculine gender more in the scripture. Recently there have been issues on the gender of God, with the church of England seeking to consider this matter, changing the Bible, and using a gender-neutral pronoun for God. “God is not a he”. That’s what gender theorists claim. God’s pronouns are they/them, we’re told. After all, God has no gender as a spiritual being. He’s three persons in one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That’s a plurality of persons. Furthermore, “Elohim”—the ancient Hebrew word for God- is plural. Doesn’t all this evidence signal a reason to change how we refer to God? Should we abandon he/him and adopt they/them?

There has been significant abuse of religious freedom in our country, Kenya. Currently, we are battling with the sickening issue of Shakahola. Paul Mackenzie, now captured, brainwashed so many people with a false version of Christianity, leading to their death. The followers believed that fasting to death would unite them with their maker. Due to the brainwashing, Paul Mckenzie’s church members could not question why the pastor and his family were not fasting. Additionally, the congregants rejected any assistance and preferred to continue with the bizarre practices. Sadly, this is the case with many people around the country, especially those with undying allegiance to the so-called ‘men of God’. Let us look at some issues that may be wreaking havoc in our churches today.

After high school, you only ask for fare when you want to do errands for your parents. Once you get to campus or university, be ready to pay for your luxuries while in session. Oh, and just before graduation, you need to have a clear plan for employment (it doesn’t matter how difficult things are). After this is done, and you finally land a casual job or an attachment, please send something home. It does not matter whether you are being paid or not – let alone how much the pay might be. While this might not be the standard in every home, it represents many Kenyan homes. Consequently, how do we approach this matter as a joyful experience, not a bothersome, manipulative, or imposed exercise?

Consider what a church is supposed to do according to scripture. A church is to regularly gather (Hebrews 10:24-25) to hear the word preached (Acts 2:42), to sing (Colossians 3:16), to pray (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18), to give towards the Lord’s work (Acts 2:44-45, 4:32-37), to evangelize (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8) and to practice the sacraments of baptism (Acts 2:41, 8:12 and the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:17-34). In addition, covenanted members dwell together while lovingly caring for one another (1 Corinthians 12:12-26), even through brutal practices such as church discipline (Matthew 18:15-17).
