Last week, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, referred to as ACIP, recommended narrowing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's hepatitis B immunization guidance for newborns. It’s now up to the CDC’s acting Director to approve the recommendation. Previous guidelines recommended infants receive their first dose of the vaccine within 24 hours of birth.
