GOD’S JUDGEMENT ON THE SIN THAT DESTROYS

6:11 The earth and all people were שָׁחַת “I will destroy the destroyed” or

6:13 I will שָׁחַת “I will bring destruction on destruction”

GOD’S GRACE FOR ALL WHO WILL RECEIVE HIM

6:8-9 “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord … Noah was walked with God”

Being justified and declared righteous is what God’s grace gives.

Being sanctified and empowered to walk in righteousness is what God’s grace does.

GOD’S INTENTION TO REDEEM ALL THINGS

9:12-13 “The sign of the covenant I make between Me, you, & every living creature, for generations: 13 I set My bow in the cloud, a sign of the covenant between Me & the earth.”

THE DECEPTIVE NATURE OF OUR SIN

v6 ”... sin crouches ( רֹבֵ֑ץ ) at the door. It’s desire ( תְּשׁ֣וּקָת֔וֹ ) is for you”

THE PERSISTENCE OF GOD’S GRACE

v6-7 “Why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted?”

THE JUSTICE & MERCY OF GOD’S GOSPEL

v10 “The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.”

THERE IS A DIVINE CELEBRATION

… over the material world God creates & the cultural mandate He gives

to the people He loves.

THERE IS A DIVINE IMAGE

… inscribed on man and woman so that together, we reflect the nature of our

loving Creator in two distinct ways, as counterparts.

THERE IS GOOD NEWS CONCERNING CREATION

God has determined to redeem the world & the people He created in love.

The God of creation is the Lord of re-creation.

THERE IS A DIVINE CELEBRATION

… over the material world God creates & the cultural mandate He gives

to the people He loves.

THERE IS A DIVINE IMAGE

… inscribed on man and woman so that together, we reflect the nature of our

loving Creator in two distinct ways, as counterparts.

THERE IS GOOD NEWS CONCERNING CREATION

God has determined to redeem the world & the people He created in love.

The eternal, triune God created all things

God’s creation, including humanity, is inherently very good

God our Creator brings order out of chaos

the Passover

the garden

the courts

the King’s cross

“Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord”  Mark 11:9

THE TRAP

“Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?” (14)

JESUS’ RESPONSE

“Who’s image and inscription is this?” (16)

“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” (17)

OUR RESPONSE

Glad surrender to God in Christ, living freely as Jesus’ people on earth.

DEPENDENCE ON JESUS PRODUCES HUMBLE CONFIDENCE

FOR THE TRIBULATIONS OF LIFE

v15 “whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

SELF RELIANCE IS EXPOSED IN THE PAIN OF LETTING GO OF IDOLS

V22 “but he (the rich man) was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful,

for he had great possessions.”

THE CROSS IS BOTH THE FORM AND FUEL FOR EFFECTIVE MINISTRY

v44-45 whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
