The term Λόγος (word) is a well known term used to philosophize about the order, logic, and reason for the universe. The apostle assigns it to Jesus.

God has waged war on darkness and will not be overcome = καταλαμβάνω

He came to that which was His own, to give the right to be children of God

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling place among us.” (John 1:14)

“Look! God’s dwelling place is among His people” (Revelation 21:3)

Luke 2:14  “Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Jesus brings us from barrenness to flourishing

Jesus brings us from brokenness to wholeness

Jesus brings us from bondage to freedom

Jesus brings us from sorrow to joy

From the root verb שָׁלַם  meaning "to be sound”.

Peace is the state of being whole & complete; as our inner life is in harmony with God’s vision for flourishing, our outer life seeks the peace & flourishing of our community.

Jesus is both your loving shepherd (v10-11) and the Lord over all creation (22-28) 

Deliberate, tension-filled waiting that binds the heart to God in expectation of His empowering presence, rooted in relationship, not circumstance.

קָוָה  “hope, wait” from root  קַו “measuring rule”, or figuratively, your rule of life”

Unlike optimism, clinging to possibilities of how circumstances could work out,

Hope clings to God, renewing the soul when nothing is working out.

The book of Acts begins & ends with “mighty winds”. The spread of the gospel begins with God’s presence like a “mighty wind”. The threat to stop the spread of the gospel comes in a storm of mighty winds. United to Christ, storms should be expected - but not feared.

The Apostle has a Word of promise before the storm, a confirming Word in the storm and finds courage by eating & communing with Christ in the chaos.

Acts 28:31 “He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!”

JESUS DIAGNOSES THE FALLEN HUMAN CONDITION

18 "to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me."

JESUS PROCLAIMS THE NATURE OF HIS SALVATION

23 "the Christ must suffer and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles."

THE GOSPEL CALLS US TO ENTER IN & LIVE THIS NEW LIFE

19 "I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but declared . . . that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance."

THE COURAGE TO SHARE THE GOSPEL is empowered by the Spirit and cultivated by having genuine care for the listeners.

THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL is the good news of redemption … but first it exposes the bad news, which is our need for redemption.

THE CONVICTION THAT THERE IS NO BETTER NEWS

THAN THE GOSPEL God’s plan to redeem the people He loves, restore the creation He loves, make all things new and raise us from death to enjoy it.
