A former executive at New Jersey Transit faces up to five years in prison after admitting to selling stolen cellphones.
New Jersey’s Attorney General's Office says 37-year-old Peejay Manila was working as the Chief of Digital Workspace when he purchased about 1,000 phones from a company account, worth $1.3 million, and sold them to a buyback company for about $900,000.
When police searched his home last year, investigators say he had 20 phones ready to be shipped.
Manila is also charged with failing to report that 900,000 in income, resulting in a tax debt of $56,000. Sentencing is scheduled for June 5.
