  • 11-year-old red panda at Philadelphia Zoo dies
    The Philadelphia Zoo said one of its red pandas has died. Eleven-year-old Khumbie was diagnosed with cancer during an annual exam and was humanely euthanized.
    The zoo said red pandas are known as “cat bears” due to their tendency to strike out in bear-like fashion when cornered, as well as their semi-retractile claws.
    Red pandas are classified as endangered in the wild and are native to the high-altitude, temperate forests of the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China.

  • Monroe Township residents push back against a possible data center being built in their community
    Neighbors in Monroe Township, Gloucester County, are trying to prevent a data center from being built in their community. Developer Hexa Builders wants to redevelop a vacant plot of farmland on Black Horse Pike into a warehouse. However, neighbors think that's not the real plan. They're concerned that a township ordinance provides a loophole that allows the developer to build a data center instead.
    At a meeting Wednesday night, township leaders said they're taking the first steps to close that loophole. A vote on changing the ordinance is expected to happen in two weeks.

  • Lancaster County teens get probation after using AI to create fake nudes of classmates
    Two teenage boys from Lancaster County have been given probation for using artificial intelligence to create hundreds of fake nude photos of their classmates. The boys were 14 at the time.
    Authorities say the boys took images of 59 girls from school photos, social media and FaceTime chats, and morphed them with images of nude adults depicting nudity or sexual activity. Many of the victims were classmates of the boys at Lancaster Country Day School.
    At sentencing, many of the girls called for the toughest penalty as they described their trauma. The judge said the boys' records will be expunged in two years if they don't reoffend.

  • Large sinkhole in Fishtown causing a stir among neighbors
    A large sinkhole has been causing problems at a busy intersection in Fishtown for days. It opened up over the weekend on the corner of Susquehanna Avenue and Norris Street.
    The Philadelphia Water Department placed traffic cones and caution tape around the hole, but there's no estimate for when it will be fixed.

  • Former Delaware County immigration officer pleads guilty to taking bribes
    A former immigration officer from Delaware County charged with bribing immigrants pleaded guilty on Tuesday.
    Authorities say Amara Dukuly of Brookhaven admitted in federal court that over the last decade, he took bribes from immigrants and promised to help them with their status.
    In one case, took $6,000 in bribes from someone to remove a ‘terrorist’ reference to their immigration record and instead ‘clean’ his file.
    He will be sentenced in July and faces up to 15 years in prison.
