  • Grays Ferry residents can return to normal after health officials declare air quality safe
Philly health officials say residents of Grays Ferry can return to their normal routines after a fire Thursday prompted the health department to declare an air quality event in the area.
Officials say the fire occurred near South 34th Street and Gray's Ferry Avenue.
Health department inspectors collected an air sample before the fire was brought under control.
The department says the fire didn't register an increase in pollutants or toxic compounds that would pose a threat to health.
Officials yesterday had advised children, the elderly, and other vulnerable people to close all windows and limit going outdoors. Those warnings have been lifted.
