Ep #38 - Here’s a scary stat: less than 2% of the technology sector workforce is made up of Latinas. And yet tech is all across our lives. What are you reading these show notes on right now? How are you listening to this podcast?

It’s all tech!

Theresa Gonzales is a childfree, third-generation Mexican-American, and the CEO and producer of the podcast Latinas from the Block to the Boardroom. Her podcast is a social justice platform that focuses on women of color, especially Latina voices. And one of Theresa’s primary concerns is how tech, especially artificial intelligence, represents Latinas.

Having worked for several major tech companies, Theresa is able to leverage her unique experience to expose the potential downsides of AI. And not to spoil the episode, but it’s not great. Since few Latinas have access to write the code, we can’t be accurately represented by the code. Instead we’re mired in culturally demeaning stereotypes.

But we feel strongly that Gen Z will turn that around by dismantling the double standards in the industry, and use their bold sense of self to create healthy boundaries in these corporate and creative spaces.

Ep #36 - Pam Covarrubias has bounced between the US and Mexico her entire life. As a business coach and host of the Cafe Con Pam podcast, she has learned to stand in her power and will explain on this episode exactly what that means and what it took to get there. She also explains how embodying 2 separate countries and cultures gives her the necessary experience to help her clients build successful and sustainable businesses.

In this episode, we deconstruct the common Spanish phrase "calladita se ve mas bonita," which translates into the idea that quiet little girls are more beautiful. That one little phrase has managed to pack in a heavy dose of misogyny and stripped people of their own voices. Because when people feel like their voices bear no weight and they lack confidence in themselves, they're so easy to control.

Controlling people, especially women, is what the patriarchy thrives on. And women like Pam and I are here to call bullshit on that belief and behavior and minimize its impact. As a childfree Latina, Pam points to how gender and societal norms (in both the US and Mexico) affect how she is perceived and how the bingos she hears give her real insight on to people's own projections of themselves.

Ep #35 - The idea of self-care has lost all its meaning. Even we childfree Latinas think it's something we only get to have as a treat, but in reality it's something each and everyone needs every single day. It should be ingrained in your routine, a habit that's done from muscle memory.

But our culture doesn't want us to think that way. La cultura prefiera que nos quedamos callados. It doesn't want us to put our own needs above those of other people. It wants us to shut up, be quiet, and do more for others than you do for yourself. And that's toxic.

So let's bust out from that toxicity and BS! Here are 3 take-aways from this episode about self-care:

1. it should be as routine as brushing your teeth 
2. it can be as simple as a morning cup of tea

Your inner critic is probably screaming no at those questions, and that's great for fueling your imposter syndrome. Not so great for building confidence. But recognizing this support system is a first step towards conquering that negative voice and growing your confidence.

In this episode, you'll learn where to start in creating a support system of fans, and that they might be lurking in some unexpected places. And how choosing to see people who are better at things than you are as your inspiration instead of your competition can also boost your confidence.

3. Stack tasks
4. Get rest! It’s required.

 But we do it anyway. Yet we don't pay attention to how others look up to us. Instead we use these comparisons to highlight our own shortcomings. What's the cure to comparisonitis? 

Here are 3 ways to combat that nasty habit. Remember that:

1. What everyone is showing you is mostly bullshit
2. You have plenty of time to reach your goals
3. You ARE a badass even if you don’t feel it 100% of the time
