Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:19, “If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied." A large part of Christian hope is connected to our future existence beyond this life. However, our concepts of the after-life can be somewhat fuzzy and confused and often unbiblical. In this first of two lectures on "Christian Hope" (the second will be in the Fall), we will look first at questions of anxiety over death and the difficulty of understanding what lies beyond. Then we will examine the concept of resurrection in contrast to the immortality of the soul, what happens between death and resurrection, why we need resurrection bodies, what the resurrection body is like and how the Resurrection impacts us today in terms of Christian holiness and Christian mission.
