This Fantastic Fellas Friday is an ATLANTA THING as we celebrate Rapper, Song Writer, Actor, Activist, Co-Founder of Greenwood and now Change Maker Award recipient Killer Mike. He is a son of a police officer and discusses police brutality, social inequality, systemic racism, black wealth, and banking. Born Michael Santiago Render, Killer Mike made his debut on Outkast's 2000 LP Stankonia, and later appeared on the Grammy-winning song "The Whole World" from their greatest hits album Big Boi and Dre Present... Outkast. He has since released five full-length albums as a solo artist. He is the founder of Grind Time Official Records, which he launched through SMC and Fontana Distribution. His show Trigger Warning with Killer Mike is an American documentary web television series on Netflix, which explores issues in America that affect the black community, including drugs, gangs, religion, and poverty. Killer Mike, civil rights legend Andrew Young, and Bounce TV Network President Ryan Glover, recently launched a digital banking platform called “Greenwood.” Greenwood’s mission is to serve Black, Latinx and other underserved communities that have historically struggled to gain capital. NBC and Billboard is donating one million dollars ($1,000,000) to Greenwood in Killer Mike’s honor. In addition to addressing themes of racism and police brutality in his music, he has also delivered several lectures at colleges and universities, written about social justice topics for publications such as Billboard, and been the subject of interviews regarding police misconduct and race relations. Recently Killer Mike received the first ever Billboard Music Award’s Inaugural Billboard Change Maker Award, given to him my Atlanta’s Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. I hope you enjoy the narratives, which explains what episodes are about, as well as the graphic attached to each episode, which I diligently search for to match each episode. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY?
