Doesn't matter if you are a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent, or Whosie Whatsit....This one is for you! This week on Lady Wave we tackle the often-controversial topic of why representation matters for women no matter your party lines. Women make up nearly 51% of the population and and yet we hold an abysmally low number of positions in our government. We have to change this! But how? Well, women supporting women running for office is a good start and we are gonna chat all about it. We also deliver you a Heat Wave that doubles down on the importance of representation in power positions...think free period products for all brought to you by none other than a badass female leader! Now if that doesn't get you going, we don't know what will. #ladywave
So maybe 2020 wasn't our year and perhaps 2021 won't be either, BUT that won't stop us from promoting self care. Now more than ever we need to ditch the notion that self care is a luxury and make it a priority. On this episode we cover the different categories of self care and what we are personally doing to meet those needs. Plus our heat wave is an angel on earth sharing her wealth to help make medical strides so we can kick this pandemic in the ass. And we also give another nod to our favest of fave waves, a non profit that has not only been helping women's bodies but also their minds and spirit. We are all about spreading the love and support #ladywave!
While 2020 may have had a bleak streak, there is finally a bright spot that leads us to believe America's best days are still ahead. We could not be more excited that we finally have the first female Vice President of the United States. Sure it's long overdue and the fact that it has been 100 years since women gained the right to vote is not lost on us. But, progress is progress and we are going to celebrate this win for Kamala Harris and women everywhere. "While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last." That's right! The glass ceiling has cracked wide open and we are ready! #ladywave
Traveling during COVID, first encounters with Trump parades, dealing with friends and family with different political views, Facebook tirades and hovering over the delete button...That's just the intro! This week's Lady Wave is all over the map. We question whether or not we can support women in power positions when we don’t align with their core beliefs. Specifically, we question all things Amy Coney Barrett. Between her politics and her faith, are we regressing hard earned freedoms to the days of yesteryear if she takes a seat as a Supreme Court Justice? There is a lot to unpack, but we are here for it. #Ladywave
Today we dedicate our entire episode to the truly exceptional RBG, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. We discuss the impact the loss of our hero is having on us, but rather than wallowing in misery, we celebrate the Notorious RBG by taking a walk through her trailblazing career history and discuss the very strategic actions she took to literally change the way the world works for American women. She did all the heavy lifting...now it's our turn. Rest in power, RBG! You were the ultimate #ladywave!
And a special shout out to Penny Stone and the Wildfire Women's Choir of Edinburgh, who gathered in 2019 to sing one of RBG's most beloved quotes. You can check out their vocals at the end of the podcast and find the original video on youtube by searching for "Penny Stone when there are nine."
Quarantine never ending...well for some people! Today we are yet again podcasting via technology and we chat about how the quarantine blues are affecting our psyche and how safely expanding your social pod is oh so good for the soul. Plus, you'll find out what happens if you try to hug Teresa as well as get the deets on Kate's first attempt at acupuncture. We also toss in a little chat on Kate's guilty pleasure teen flick, "The Kissing Booth," parts 1 and 2, and transparent bathrooms that are popping up in parks in Tokyo. Then we dive into a laundry list of heavy hitting matters like women having the power to determine elections yet failing to vote in their best interests, how black women are left out of the Black Lives Matter movement and conversation, Ruth Bader Ginsberg's health concerns, and Supreme Court rulings on abortion and contraceptives that are flying under the radar of the main stream media. That's right! Huge decisions about women's health care are being made and you don't really hear anyone talk about it, so we are here to scream about it from our digital roof tops! Finally, we round out our convo on a high note with our Fave Wave. We give a little nod to the world leaders who are actually doing a kick ass job during the pandemic. Spoiler alert...they are all women. Just another reason to #ladywave!
The Quarantine continues to keep us apart, but that won't stop us from chatting our faces off. So today, we get down and dirty with our discussion on quarantine milestones like facing shared laundry room situations and doctors appointments. We also answer some pretty tough questions like does Teresa yell at people who don't wear masks and do we eat food out of the trash? Don't act like you haven't been there! Then, Kate gets serious about WTF is going on with our skin these days? Quarantine skin is a thing and it's written all over our faces, but we've got the low down on why it's happening and what you can do about it. Plus, Teresa combats her depressing and negative google alerts by doing her favorite dance move. It's called the PIVOT! Well, ok, it might not be a dance move but she does have inspirational ideas for self care and staying sane during the pandemic. Don't know what the broken window theory is? Well, T-Money will school you in less than 5 seconds. And lastly, our Fave Wave is a salute to one of our favorite female directors who never waited to be picked, she just made her own way. #ladywave
While we'd rather be together podcasting it up like normal, normal is now out the window thanks to the pandemic. So today we're just chatting and catching up like friends do but responsibly socially distanced of course. We answer hard hitting questions like what we've been up to, how we're handling being in quarantine, how Teresa avoids sugar, the ever present always negative news, whether technology can live up to actual human connection, and what we think of celebrity messages like, "We're in this together!" Spoiler alert...we most certainly are not. But we can all agree that our essential workers and folks on the frontline should be everyone's Fave Wave. Enjoy this random act of chatting. #ladywave
Super Tuesday may have bummed us out, but it's Women's History Month and we are celebrating by discussing some of our favorite bits of Herstory. First, we get everything off our chest regarding the results of Super Tuesday and the disappointment we felt when our favorite female candidates dropped out of the presidential primary. Sometimes you just have to let it out! Then, Teresa dives in with some surprise factoids about a "shitty" situation regarding the women's restrooms in the Congress and Senate. Spoiler alert, it's a WTF situation! Next, we launch into some stories about our favorite women in history. From a long gone but never forgotten aviation pioneer to the first women elected as a New York Senator, these ladies knows how to roll with the punches and ignore all the hate. Finally, we round out this episode with our Fave Wave that is helping to solidify the often ignored profound place in history that women hold. If you can see it, you can be it! #ladywave
As time marches on, doesn't it sound ludicrous that equality is still so far out of reach? Of course, BUT thanks to our much needed allies and advocates, progress is on the horizon. In this episode, we run the gamut of topics including a huge update on the fight to pass the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment), women who are infiltrating male dominated sports and making U.S. history, ways we can help women advance in sports, the impressive statement made by the U.S. men's soccer union in solidarity with their female counterparts, and one of the most talked about female sports advocates, Kobe Bryant. We also discuss whether or not it's fair for journalists to bring up the skeletons in Kobe's closet in the wake of his death as well as the visceral reactions Black Mamba fans had to Gayle King's interview with Lisa Leslie. Plus, our Fave Wave is making the support of equality smell as good as it should! #ladywave
