Have you ever noticed how much the human heart longs for more? We long for beauty, excitement, accomplishment, meaning, and something that will truly captivate us. We were made for more than the temporary pleasures and lesser glories this world can offer. In John 17, Jesus shows us where that longing ultimately leads. We were made to behold His glory. As we look to Christ—especially Christ crucified for sinners—we find the glory our hearts have been searching for, and His glory begins to transform us. Join us this Sunday as we consider the glory of Christ from John 17:24-26.

Old Testament Passover lambs contrast with Jesus Christ, because while ancient sacrifices were provided by imperfect people, God Himself provided His own Son as the perfect sacrifice for sin. Jesus' played a unique role as both the High Priest and the offering! He willingly laid down His life rather than having it taken by force. Our sins were laid upon Him to secure eternal redemption for believers. Scripture describes Jesus' divine awareness of His mission from eternity past, and His human growth in understanding this burden, that He would be sacrificed as God's Lamb to take away our sins. Christ's sacrifice is superior over all animal offerings. Believers ought to view the Lord's Supper as a memorial of this completed work.

The sermon explores the theological significance of Jesus's physical scars as enduring proof of His resurrection, ascension, and eternal identity. By examining passages in John, Luke, Acts, and Revelation, the text argues that the nail prints and side wound serve as infallible evidence of His humanity and sacrificial death. The slaying of the firstborn in Egypt gives us a sobering picture of the wrath and judgment of God against the children of disobedience. Contained in this passage however is a picture of the Grace of God in the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ.
