Vince and Rob discussed the potential changes to the University of Adelaide's Conservatorium of Music as part of a proposed merger with the University of South Australia. While initial reports suggested the Conservatorium would be axed, the conversation revealed that the director, Anna Goldsworthy, believes the Conservatorium is on a growth trajectory and welcomes the opportunities for expansion. The pair also discussed the need for reform in the Conservatorium, including the lack of consultation and evidence presented to academics, job security concerns, and the need for key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success. Additionally, they touched on the transformation of universities from educational institutions to businesses, the decline of manufacturing capabilities, and the long-term implications on society. Finally, they discussed the future of music distribution and sustainability, including the environmental impact of CDs and the need for sustainable options in the industry.
Vincent and Rob decided to chat away one day about the music business in their territory and from that discussion came the idea to create a podcast about our knowledge base. Vincent from the business side of things and Rob from the education side. Vincent has a 35 year history in entertainment, and Rob has just completed his Phd in Music at the University of Adelaide.
Those backgrounds will bring about some real differences in what they interpret the music business is and how it operates. Join the guys for an hour of insights into the business.
