    Publisher's Summary:
Thousands of women have stepped inside Beckers Bridal in Fowler, Michigan, to try on their dream dresses in the Magic Room, a special space with soft lighting, a circular pedestal, and mirrors that carry a brides reflections into infinity. The women bring with them their most precious expectations about romance, love, fidelity, permanence, and tradition. Each bride who passes through has a story to tell - one that carried her there, to that dress, that room, that moment.
Illuminating the poignant aspects of a womans journey to the altar, The Magic Room tells the stories of memorable women on the brink of commitment. Run by the same family for four generations, Beckers has witnessed transformations in how America views the institution of marriage: some of the shops clientele are becoming step-mothers, some are older brides, some are pregnant. Shop owner Shelley has a special affection for all the brides, hoping their journeys will be easier than hers. Wall Street Journal columnist Jeffrey Zaslow tells their true stories using a reporters research and a fathers heart.
The stories Zaslow shares from within The Magic Room are at times joyful, at times heart-breaking, and offers with insights on marriage, family, and the lessons that parents - especially mothers - pass on to their daughters about love. Weaving together secrets, memories, and family tales, The Magic Room explores the emotional lives of women in the 21st century.

    Title: Across Many Mountains
Subtitle: A Tibetan Family's Epic Journey from Oppression to Freedom
    Author: Yangzom Brauen
    Narrator: Yangzom Brauen
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 52 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-28-11
    Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 38 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
A powerful, emotional memoir and an extraordinary portrait of three generations of Tibetan women whose lives are forever changed when Chairman Maos Red Army crushes Tibetan independence, sending a young mother and her six-year-old daughter on a treacherous journey across the snowy Himalayas toward freedom.
Kunsang thought she would never leave Tibet. One of the country's youngest Buddhist nuns, she grew up in a remote mountain village where, as a teenager, she entered the local nunnery. Though simple, Kunsang's life gave her all she needed: a oneness with nature and a sense of the spiritual in all things. She married a monk, had two children, and lived in peace and prayer. But not for long. There was a saying in Tibet: "When the iron bird flies and horses run on wheels, the Tibetan people will be scattered like ants across the face of the earth."
The Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950 changed everything. When soldiers arrived at her mountain monastery, destroying everything in their path, Kunsang and her family fled across the Himalayas only to spend years in Indian refugee camps. She lost both her husband and her youngest child on that journey, but the future held an extraordinary turn of events that would forever change her life - the arrival in the refugee camps of a cultured young Swiss man long fascinated with Tibet. Martin Brauen fell instantly in love with Kunsang's young daughter, Sonam, eventually winning her heart and hand, and taking mother and daughter with him to Switzerland, where Yangzom was born.
Many stories lie hidden until the right person arrives to tell them. In rescuing the story of her now 90-year-old inspirational grandmother and her mother, Yangzom Brauen has given us a book full of love, courage, and triumph, as well as allowing us a rare and vivid glimpse of life in rural Tibet before the arrival of the Chinese. Most importantly, though, Across Many Mountains is a testament to three strong, determined women who are linked by an unbreakable family bond.
    Critic Reviews:
"This book paints a vivid picture of Tibetan experience over the last eight decades, one of the most difficult periods in our history. Through the personal stories of three women from one Tibetan family, it recalls the imposition of Chinese rule in Tibet and the subsequent efforts of many Tibetans to preserve their identity and treasured values in exile." (His Holiness the Dalai Lama)
"A moving reminder that the consequences of the Chinese invasion of Tibet continue down to this day. A lovely memoir of three generations of Tibetan women." (Oliver Stone)
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent all around!
Beautifully written and performed by the author herself. A tale rich in the history of one family's female lineage across three generation as it parallels the history of the Tibetan uprising and its aftermath on the Tibetan people as they struggle to reinvent themselves in a distant land bereft of the comfort and console of their homeland and spiritual bedrock.
I simply fell in love with all three of these women. I cheered their adventures and wept for their losses. There is grit and grace and unshakeable faith threading its way between all their lives and legacies. Humor is there, too, and, in the end, I was uplifted and inspired.

Even when faced with mysterious slamming doors and haunting pleas for help, these brothers never shy away from a bone-chilling encounter or another chance to investigate a centuries-old haunting.
    Critic Reviews:
"In this enjoyable read, sure to entertain even skeptics, the Klinge brothers (founders of Everyday Paranormal and stars of the popular Discovery Channel show Ghost Lab) recount how they first became interested in ghosts, what led them to start their company, and why they decided to make scientific experimentation the hallmark of their practice." (Publishers Weekly)

A great book for people with paranormal interests
Having had a few paranormal experiences, I seek out books and stories that document other experiences and perhaps provide information on such occurrances. This was an interesting "behind the scenes" look at those 'ghost hunting' shows on TV. (Most of which I cannot stand.) It talks about how they became interested in the paranormal and the problems they ran into with their team members attempting to fake stuff for a more dramatic experience. I felt like the Klinge brothers were just looking to document actual paranormal activity and find answers, not be actors in a scary movie. So thumbs up!
    fantastic
Such an honest and down to earth book. I loved it. good job on it.
    Never take"No" for an answer.
I really enjoyed the book. I met Brad, Barry and Katie several years ago in Beaumont Tx before I knew Ghost Lab was going into season 2. I was so impressed with their honest approach and straight forward talk that I immediately went home and watched the whole season. Of all the ghost shows, it remains my favorite of them. The book explains their life, their research and techniques. I'm impressed by their story telling and their ability to hang in throughout the disappointments. I will continue to follow their progress and love their"Texas" style! Keep up the good work. -fellow Texan
    ghost lab

Great stories and all but considering these are from texas ( as am i) a texan reader would have been better. And i dont mean stereo type twangy texan. Overall great audio book

Just got done listening to this one, and loved it. I have 2 sons, and one grandson, so I can relate to lots of the stories.
Like all Chicken Soup for the Souls you will cry
Like all Chicken Soup for the Souls you will cry. Especially when you read the sad stories and look at your own son but the plus is you hold your children, family and friends a little closer and your heart is able to shake off a little of the daily grind that gets at all of us. I was reading a story about cooking with your kids while my own kids played at the park and when we left we stopped at a store and they picked out a baking project to share at home with each other while I watched and listened. I love the stories and the thoughts they give me.

Nortons feline adventures in France are a must for the consummate cat-lover, but also great fun for those not enamored of anything feline.

    heartwarming!
I had read A Cat in Paris, and downloaded its sequel, A Cat Abroad, for my aged mother, who has recently had to leave her home and go into care. She LOVED this book--it brought some sunshine into her life at a time that was looking gloomy.
My mother has been a great reader all her life but her failing eyesight means she is dependent on Audible to keep up with what's being published. She's a very smart critic, so if she says A Cat Abroad is great, I feel I can pass on her opinion with confidence.
Sequel does not measure up to the 1st book in series
This sequel lacks the charm and humor we enjoyed in the original. Sorry the 1st book is not available on audible.

It was pitch-black out and white water was crashing over the boat. The wintry wind screamed across the deck, and I could tell it was now holding up near 50 knots. Imagine standing on the roof of a car thats driving down the freeway. Thats how hard it was blowing. At that moment, a huge gust hit the mainsail like a train. The boat heeled over to port as if a giant hand had smacked her down, and I tumbled over the top of the mainsail toward the water...
On 23 January 2010, 16-year-old Abby Sunderland set sail from Marina del Rey, California, in an attempt to become the youngest person to sail solo, nonstop, and unassisted around the world. Immediately, her trip sparked controversy. What was a girl her age doing undertaking such a voyage? What were her parents thinking? Abbys critics predicted shed make it a few weeks at most. But sailing south, she proved them wrong, and became the youngest person to solo around Cape Horn, the Mount Everest of sailing. Crossing the Southern and Atlantic oceans, she battled vicious storms and equipment breakdownsmaking one critical repair literally with a nail file and some string. Abby bested the wicked waters at the southern tip of Africa then entered the Indian Oceanall twenty-seven million square miles of it. Even less than a hundred years ago, having your boat become disabled in the middle of the Indians immense rolling reaches was as good as a death sentence. The odds are better now, but not much. It was here that Abby Sunderland encountered the violent storms that would test her mettle and her will to surviveand change her life forever.

Length: 5 hrs and 43 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 02-03-11
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 31 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
At forty years old, a successful writer, husband and father, no longer toiling on offshore drilling rigs, was Paul Carter happily nestled in the cotton wool of suburban life enjoying the fruits of his labour? Was he f**k!
With his manic life left far behind and the perfect opportunity to take it easy stretched before him what else would a middle-aged, bike obsessed, man want? Yes, that's right, he'd want to be the first guy to ride around Australia on an underpowered experimental motorcycle that runs on used cooking oil, wouldn't he? Preferably without getting hit by a semi-trailer full of bridge parts. Is he out of his mind? Quite possibly. Carter is back to his old balls-to-the-wall style of writing, prepare to laugh out loud.
    Members Reviews:
    Another hit for Paul Carter
If you could sum up Is That Thing Diesel? in three words, what would they be?
    A funny story
What did you like best about this story?
Carters battle with the cockroach and his very australian voice and reactions
Have you listened to any of Paul Carters other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, but don't think this is as good as "Don't Tell My Mum I Work on the Rigs"
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Do not listen to this book while drinking in public or someone will get covered in drink and spittle
    Any additional comments?
I was dissapointed at the start of the book. I thought it was a big let down and not as funny as "Don't Tell My Mum I Work on the Rigs". But it soon picked up and I was again a very happy boy for purchasing this one
    Paul Carter rocks
I enjoyed it. Interesting story about a guy circumnavigating Australia on a motorcycle that runs on used cooking oil. What's not to love.
    Another entertaining Carter Tale
The raw unapologetic aspect to Carter's writing is rather appealing in an age of political correctness. While this is not my favourite Carter the same familiar style continues with many more funny tales about the absurd trip down under on vegie oil.
good book, shame about the language!
What made the experience of listening to Is That Thing Diesel? the most enjoyable?
The story line was excellent and very entertaining. As a motorbike enthusiast and rider I enjoyed the 'experience'.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Is That Thing Diesel??
There were lots of memorable moments. some were laugh-out-loud, some were less so.
Which character as performed by Paul Carter was your favourite?
    Paul himself
    Any additional comments?
I am not a prude by any stretch of the imagination but I would have liked a warning about the strong language. Being a woman of mature years (60+) and a bike rider myself I enjoyed all of the ride and the adventure that Paul took us on.
