    Title: The Stronghold of Jezebel
    Author: Bill Vincent
    Narrator: Robert B. Weir
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 44 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-23-13
    Publisher: Bill Vincent
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 14 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
This is a book that God has laid on my heart for some time now. I believe that both men and women have first-hand experience with a spirit called Jezebel. I'm referring to more than just a distant spirit; it is possible to be actually married to this foul spirit.
This is a true story of my personal life. I really was married to a woman with a Jezebel spirit. I will tell you my story, but will omit the names of people, because we don't deal here with flesh and blood but rather the principalities and powers of wickedness in high places.
I will start with a chapter that gives some scriptural basis for the spirit of Jezebel and the characteristics of this spirit. Then I will relate my story, referring to many, if not all, of the characteristics of the Jezebel spirit.
I know some people will be stirred and lash out at me, but until you have walked a mile in my shoes, who are you to judge? This book will be controversial, but if you know me, you know I thrive on controversy. It has been about 18 months since I left Jezebel. I am not writing this to vent or to put anyone down. This book should be of help if you have someone close to you consumed by a spirit that you may need to cut yourself off from in order to survive.

Wow...I'll have to listen to this again
Bill shares some of the characteristics of the jezebel Spirit and witchcraft and goes into some details and then goes on to share a story of being in a relationship with one for 19 years, 13 of which he was married.
I have to take my hat of to him for being so honest and transparent with his life and by using his life you really get to have an idea of what a person with the jezebel spirit is really like.
Bill has a longer book on the jezebel spirit and I can see myself ordering that next.
Called as a prophet I have come across a lot of people with the jezebel spirit. They always seem to become my friends, draw close to me to a point where they are influencing me. Bill speaks from experience and not just textbook knowledge.
I commend this audio book to you
    Matthew Robert Payne
The author of six kindle books and two books on Audible
    Good listen
The experiences documented seems to be the way the spirit of Jezebel operates. God says that everything that happens should be an example for us. In other words, God allowed the author to experience the Jezebel spirit so that he could have written about it.
The Male lead didn't take any responsibilty..
    Any additional comments?
The moral of this story is..
Not to Marry in a Hurry and take the time to get to know a person before marriage.
The book covers an "anointed" man who had a wife with a Jezebel spirit.
It is also about temptation and seduction of the spirit.
This story felt too short and it didn't seem as though the Male lead
took any Responsibilty for his Actions.
Robert B. Weir did well with the narration.
    Note:
"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast."
    His side of the story
What did you like best about The Stronghold of Jezebel? What did you like least?
This book has an interesting idea, as a warning to stay away from certain traits and types of people, specifically women. Even though the author specifically states that it is not to vent, but to educate, it feels more like he is telling his side of the story and how he was weak and eventually grew a pair.

    Delightful Book
This is a very lighthearted book that gets to the heart of healing. Nothing stuffy, preachy or pie in the sky about this book. The author gives instances where she and others have been healed by prayer. The healing of a dog named Christmas is a very sweet story and you can sense the love that was behind the healing. The dog understood love and responded to it and expressed it as well. The injured dog had a human friend and dog friend that were caring, loving and loyal. I've often marvelled how dogs express things so simply and naturally without a church affiliation, class teaching or Sunday school advising them how it's done. I really liked this book for its remarkable down to earth style without a trace of the familiar "holier-than-thou" attitude that leaves you heavy laden. The adventures of the author are both entertaining and uplifting. I think Mary Baker Eddy would have approved.
Ray of sunshine on Christian Science
Karen Terrell shares her warm and buoyant soul with us and lets us see Christian Science as a church with the love of God and brotherly love to spare. I'm a member of a different church but I bristle now if I hear someone call these people a cult or weirdos. They have their own individual opinions and some use doctors, just like any other group of people. It's a totally upbeat book about the life led by Mrs. Terrell, her husband and children and they're as well-grounded as any other American family. I enjoyed following her adventures. She's got a lot of courage.
    a clear understanding
I have always appreciated the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. I have not always appreciated the writings of Christian Scientists. So often I have wondered if they have really read Science and Health. This book is written by a Christian Scientist who has a clear understanding and rich experience of Christian Science. It is a practice and we watch and share in her practice. Beautifully written with great heart and humor.
Happy, heart-warming tales from a woman who lives her faith.
I am not a Christian Scientist but have been curious about their beliefs and practices. This book provides a glimpse into the life of a Christian Scientist. The author artfully laces her stories together with hymns and passages written by C.S. founder, Mary Baker Eddy. I liked the book very much and will read other books by this author.
Thank you Karen for Writing this Book
To echo the reviews of others, I did laugh, I did cry, this book touched my soul. My wife and I read it out loud on a snowy New Hampshire day and there were numerous times when I had to pause as the lump formed in my throat. I've been a Christian Scientist for most of my adult life and this book tells my story and the story of many fellow travelers.

    Fought for Country
Where does Vietnam: No Regrets rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Vietnam: No Regrets ranks high on the list of books I've listened to about Vietnam.
What did you like best about this story?
What I liked best about this story was the fact that J. Richard Watkins did not contest the war in Vietnam as an enlisted man and if asked to do it again he would. Watkins expressed himself in such a way that I understood his description of the country, the people, and the war without any problem. His telling of how he fought in the war was clear cut and honest. The way in which he described his actions during battles were forthright. However, he never once made the reader feel as if he should not be fighting in Vietnam. Yes, he did not like war, he did not like killing other humans, he felt deep sorrow when his friends were wounded or killed and he hated when another American was killed in action. Watkins was always up and ready to go perform his duties as a soldier on the front line. His company was involved with ambushes. Sometimes these confrontations became overwhelming. He carried the radio for communications. Watkins was secure in the knowledge that if his company needed air support or extra men they would come fast. He didn't like carrying the radio because the antenna stuck out of his pack and could be easily seen. He, being the communications guy, would be the first man shot at. That, he was not pleased about and wished that someone else would carry the radio. But he never once whined or asked that he not have the responsibility for the radio. He felt that was his job and he would perform his duty to the best of his ability. Watkins learned fast how to use that radio. He knew that his life and the lives of others depended on him. He didn't want to die, he wanted to go back home and often thought that maybe he wouldn't make it back. However, his mantra became, I will make it back to my family but especially to my mom. Watkins took roll upon roll of film of Vietnam. The countryside of Vietnam, he thought of as beautiful, the people, not so much. However, he hated the jungles. They slowed them down, he'd get himself scratched up and his clothing would be torn. The enemy knew the jungles well and Watkins felt quite vulnerable when had to go through them to get to their x destination. There was more than one once that another man of his company saved his butt from being killed. No, he didn't like every man that was in his company but that man was an American and he never would hesitate to save one of his own, never. He enjoyed every day when he had leave. His first stop would be the PX to purchase more film and things that his buddies back at camp had asked him to pick up. He even purchased small gifts for the men in command because he knew that he was going to take an extra day or two than he had been allotted.

    Publisher's Summary:
The night I met Cade I never would've thought that two years later, after we were homeless street musicians in Hawaii, we would have a little girl and another baby on the way. Our son was born with the type of birth defects that make televangelists cringe. As his health waned, my own breath evaded me, as if I was the one who needed the ventilator for life support. The death home gave him a really nice funeral, the kind I'd never wished to attend. When they tried closing his casket, I nearly fell on my face, not wanting them to shut the lid on my baby.
We lost it after that, totally cemented in our grief. Cade got into drugs, joined a rock and roll band, and even grew out his damn hair. At the time, I was sick of the oatmeal option (the only food we had), so I kicked Cade out of the house, and started modeling and working as a diesel mechanic. That was how I met Earl, an old man and unlikely best friend; the "Big Sag," a middle aged woman who still flashed folks; and "The Cowboy" a man who fell in love with me.
It was slow at first, but Cade reverted to the man I'd busked with years before. It wasn't until I killed a rogue skunk, and my daughter nearly choked on a fry, that I gave my husband another chance. But could our marriage recover from the death of our son?

    The Golden Sky
The Golden Sky by E. C. Stilson should be required reading for anyone who might be considering -- even remotely -- the possibility of having sex and getting pregnant. I wish it had been around for me to read when I was 17.
I take this stance because a major theme in this work of non-fiction is that life is not fair and life can be very difficult, and it takes hard work and maturity to get through those tough times.
This book is the journal that E. C. Stilson (Elisa) kept as a young woman. When she was 19 years old, Elisa and her husband Cade had a very young daughter, and Elisa was pregnant. Sadly, their son Zeke had medical problems that resulted in his death. For a time, Elisa and Cade were separated as each sought different methods of dealing with their agony.
It's raw and real. I felt I was with Elisa every step of the way. I must say that if I had been a friend of Elisa's during the time that Cade went off to join a band and smoke pot, I think I would have bitch slapped him but good. That's how strong my feelings were as I read.
I think the sweetest part of the book is when little daughter Ruby wants a helium balloon and then to Elisa's dismay, lets go of the balloon immediately after they leave the store. Ruby then explains in toddlerese that she is sending the balloon to Zeke because they don't have balloons in Heaven. God bless you, Ruby.
Just in case you don't know their story or are not a follower of The Crazy Life of a Writing Mom (Elisa's blog, which you should be following), I'm not going to tell you what happens between Elisa and Cade after they suffer this heartbreaking loss. Read the book so Elisa herself can tell you what happened.

This hilarious, whip-smart collection of essays from a top writer and producer of Six Feet Under crisscrosses from the highly personal (conflating her own loss of virginity and the Kobe Bryant accusations), to the political (what she has in common with Monica and Chandra), to the outrageously Los Angelean (why women wear huge diamonds and what they must do to get them). Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants is a genre-defying combination of personal essay and memoir, or a hilarious, unruly and unapologetic evaluation of society, religion, sex, love, and - best of all - Jill Soloway.

    Another Author Read Failure!
If I could get past Jill Soloway's mocking, valley girl narrative I might have enjoyed this book as the description was right up my alley. She did that annoying thing? Where every sentence? Ended in a question mark? Ugh. I love anything Hollywood or entertainment driven. Her narration was so irritating I could only stomach about an hour before I was so over it I had to turn it off. Back to the Audible home page!!!
    This was awful.
This book was hard to get through, in fact, I abandoned it at the appendices. It's boring and unfunny. Parts are off while others are downright strange and uncomfortable. In an era where female comedians are writing hilarious tales of their endearing oddities, this book comes in with off putting anecdotes and unrelatable humor. It felt like a punishment to myself trying to finish this listen and in the end I just gave up.

    Publisher: Penguin Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 68 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
"One day I will tell you the story of my life," promises Emma Brockes' mother, "and you will be amazed." Despite her mother's tales of a rustic childhood in South Africa and bohemian years in London, Brockes grew up knowing that some crucial pieces of the past were left unspoken. A mystery to her friends and family, Brockes' mother, Paula, was glamorous, no-nonsense, and totally out of place in their quaint English village. What compelled her to emigrate to England was never explained, nor what empowered her tremendous strengths and strange fears. Looking to unearth the truth after Paula's death, Brockes begins a dangerous journey into the land - and the life - her mother fled from years before.
She Left Me the Gun: My Mother's Life Before Me is a tale of true transformation, the story of a young woman who reinvented herself so completely that her previous life seemed to simply vanish - and of a daughter who transcends her mother's fears and reclaims an abandoned past. Brockes soon learns that Paula's father was a drunk megalomaniac who terrorized Paula and her seven half-siblings for years. He is ultimately taken to court and vindicated of all charges - but not before Paula shoots him five times, and fails to kill him. She books passage to London, never to return.
She Left Me the Gun carries Brockes to South Africa to meet her seven aunts and uncles, to weigh their stories against her mother's silences, and to understand one of the world's most beautiful yet bloody countries. Brockes learns of the violent pathologies and racial propaganda in which her grandfather was inculcated, sees the mine shafts and train yards where he worked as an itinerant mechanic, and finds buried in government archives the startling court records that prove he was secretly imprisoned for murder years before he first married.
An extraordinary work of psychological suspense and forensic memoir, She Left Me the Gun chronicles Brockes' efforts to walk the knife edge between understanding her mother's unspeakable traumas and embracing the happiness she chose for herself and her daughter.

    Grim subject, wonderful book!
Where does She Left Me the Gun rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It is right up there with the best of them.
What other book might you compare She Left Me the Gun to and why?
I can't name a specific book, or author, but what She Left Me The Gun has in common with the best memoirs is a flow, and a story. There is mystery, humor, horror, and growth.
What about Emma Brockess performance did you like?
Everything! Sometimes authors reading their own books is a big mistake, but in this case I can't imagine how someone else could do a better job.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, although I did break it up for real life concerns, and I will be listening to it again to savor the writing.
    Any additional comments?
Don't be afraid of the subject matter - dysfunctional families are the cliche of memoir, but this one is fresh, fascinating, and involving. In my opinion it really does deserve five stars.
Needed editing; but interesting concept for a book
Story of a young woman whose seeks to know her mother's past, after her mom passes away. Great concept. Needed editing.

    Publisher's Summary:
Alexandra Aldrich, a direct descendant of the famous Astor dynasty, grew up in the servants' quarters of Rokeby, the 43-room Hudson Valley mansion built by her ancestors. Her childhood was one of bohemian neglect and real privation. But it was fairly stable until the summer of her tenth year, when her father took up with an alluring interloper, Giselle.
Alexandra idolized her father, Rokeby's charismatic lord of misrule, who had attended elite private schools as a child but inherited only landed property, not money. To him, she says, "poverty was amusing, a delightful challenge." All of the family's resources - emotional and financial - went to the maintenance of the Astor house and legacy. If the family had sold the house and its 450 acres, they all would have been able to live comfortably. Instead, Alexandra and her parents lived precariously in the grand house, scavenging for the next meal.
Her mother, an icy Polish artist, disguised her maternal indifference by extolling the virtues of independence. Relatives preyed on Alexandra's low status in the household. Once her father got involved with Giselle, Alexandra's only stalwart was her affectionate grandmother (whose great-great-grandfather, Nicholas Fish, was a close friend of Alexander Hamilton's and an executor of his estate). Grandma Claire held Alexandra's life together with family dinner parties, rides to violin lessons, and snacks after school. But as she grew progressively more debilitated by alcohol, she soon became too frail to provide a safe haven for her granddaughter.
Determined to impose order on her anarchic world and prove her worth, Alexandra awoke promptly at six-thirty each morning, adhering to a strict personal regimen of exercise, grooming, and intensive violin practice. With money borrowed from the owner of the local gas station, she did the grocery shopping, occasionally setting aside four dollars to buy herself clean white socks. The betrayal of her father's flagrant affair, however, ignited a series of familial feuds that shook her hard-won stability and set her on a path toward escaping the Astor legacy.
Reaching back to the Gilded Age, when that legacy first began to come undone, Alexandra has written an unflinching, mordantly funny account of neglect and class anxiety amid the ruins of a once prominent family. More than an insider's look at a decaying American institution, The Astor Orphan is the debut of a thrilling new voice able to render the secret pains and glories of childhood afresh.

    Very Interesting
Where does The Astor Orphan rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
It's a strong 6. It was a fun listen. I didn't have to focus on it. I could fold laundry and cook while I listened, which I liked. There are some great characters and a good amount of things happen during the story.
Which character as performed by Tavia Gilbert was your favorite?
Grandma Clair. He had a great voice. So did the mother. Fun Polish accent.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It had a nice ending. The ending really pulled it all together and left it in a good place.
    Any additional comments?
I want to say the reader, Ms. Gilbert, sometimes seemed slightly over-the-top with her enunciation. It was sometimes slightly distracting.

Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
When Christal Presley's father was eighteen, he was drafted to Vietnam. Like many men of that era who returned home with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), he was never the same. Christal's father spent much of her childhood locked in his room, gravitating between the deepest depression and unspeakable rage, unable to participate in holidays or birthdays. At a very young age, Christal learned to walk on eggshells, doing anything and everything not to provoke him, but this dance caused her to become a profoundly disturbed little girl. She acted out at school, engaged in self-mutilation, and couldn't make friends. At the age of eighteen, Christal left home and didn't look back. She barely spoke to her father for the next thirteen years.
To any outsider, Christal appeared to be doing well: she earned a BA and a master's, got married, and traveled to India. But despite all these accomplishments, Christal still hadn't faced her biggest challenge - her relationship with her father. In 2009, something changed. Christal decided it was time to begin the healing process, and she extended an olive branch. She came up with what she called "The Thirty Day Project," a month's worth of conversations during which she would finally ask her father difficult questions about Vietnam. Thirty Days with My Father is a gritty yet heartwarming story of those thirty days of a daughter and father reconnecting in a way that will inspire us all to seek the truth, even from life's most difficult relationships. This beautifully realized memoir shares how one woman and her father discovered profound lessons about their own strength and will to survive, shedding an inspiring light on generational PTSD.
    Members Reviews:
A must-read for children of combat veterans
My father always spoke openly about his two tours in Vietnam. Growing up, however, I never associated his combat experience with his unpredictable mood swings, his short fuse when it came to patience or his explosive anger over minor failures. I learned to back off, to be quiet, and to get away. It took over 30 years for him to be diagnosed and to get help. The VA came through for him but, as Christal's dad points out, for many it does not. For those of us who have dealt first hand with a combat PTSD sufferer, this book is a reassurance that we are not alone. For others, it is a lesson in the long-term trickle-down effects of war. Veterans who don't like to talk about their war REALLY don't like to talk about it. Christal has done an amazing job getting her father to share his story, and she is brave to share her own. Wonderful book.
Should be required reading for all family members of war veterans
I could have, should have, written this book myself. Except, I'm the divorced Vietnam war veteran. My two sons and daughter got their PTSD from me. Now, I see my niece with her son and daughter suffering from second-hand PTSD. Tammi's husband served 4 tours in Iraq where he was awarded a bronze star during his last deployment. But at what cost? Their preschool daughter Alejandria (Alli) was so afraid of her Dad that she began stuttering. Alli's parents are divorced now and he has moved out of state; she rarely sees him and rarely stutters now.

A collection of unspeakable degradation, fear, and agony through the eyes of an American locked up abroad.
Prison is harsh enough, but as a foreigner (farang) in a strange land, jail time is an even more horrifying reality. Rotting in the Bangkok Hilton is a collection of short stories chronicling T. M. Hoys descent into the harrowing world of Southeast Asian prison life. Through his eyes, listeners will experience the bizarre events of daily life in a Thai maximum security prison: feel the weight of the chains he wears; the stomachaches from lack of food; witness the murders, drug overdoses, torture, and unbridled cruelty that ensues.
Sentenced to life in prison, Hoy does his best to accept the fate hes been given. While attempting to "adjust" to this third-world hellhole, he contracts tuberculosis and nearly loses his life.
Hoys stories are brutal and his words are heart-wrenching. Go places youve only seen in your nightmares, to a world in which few survive, and none emerge unscathed...and if youre lucky, youll die before you really begin to suffer.
    Editorial Reviews:
The real-life account of an American serving time in a Thailand prison, Rotting in the Bangkok Hilton summons listeners to a gruesome realm of chronic hunger, unchecked violence, torture, degradation, and extortion. Performer Jim Frangione speaks with the resigned disquiet of an inmate struggling to come to grips with the cruelest confinement, his hushed baritone punctuated by shock and disgust as bizarre, often gruesome, prison rituals unfold routinely. T. M. Hoy's memoir, written in the hope he might bribe his way to freedom using its proceeds, is sure to inflame and excite listeners with its unnerving portrayal of a third world penal system.

The stories in it are truly remarkable. So disgusting and revolting there are sometimes hard to believe.
The author has an exceptional grasp of the English language. The writing is really creative and superb. Sometimes it's so good it's a bit over the top.
I didn't give it a 5 overall because the book is a series of stories, rather than one story. As such, it can feel a bit disjoint at times. For example, you won't find out why the author is in jail until the end of the book. I personally didn't like that.
    Never going to Thailand
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This is an interesting book. I enjoyed it. The author had a tough time in the Bangkok Hilton and the storys made me feel ill. Tale's like the ones in the book have been played out in movies and in audio before, but nothing like you will hear.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Rotting in the Bangkok Hilton?
One inmate had a cat and was raising it in the prison......... What happend next made me curse out loud. And when the inmate got released and the author visited him My heart dropped.
What about Jim Frangiones performance did you like?
Jim made the story very entertaining.

Twelve Years a Slave is the harrowing account of a black man, born free in New York State, who was drugged, kidnapped, and sold into slavery in 1841. Having no way to contact his family, and fearing for his life if he told the truth, Solomon Northup was sold from plantation to plantation in Louisiana, toiling under cruel masters for 12 years before meeting Samuel Bass, a Canadian who finally put him in touch with his family, and helped start the process to regain his freedom. This extraordinary text is the basis for the major motion picture starring Brad Pitt.

Very important narrative undermined by the narrato
Would you consider the audio edition of Twelve Years a Slave to be better than the print version?
Absolutely not. In addition to the disastrous narration, the printed versions have supplemental materials that greatly enhance the work.
What did you like best about this story?
Condensing an enormous problem into a personal story.
How could the performance have been better?
The narration could have drawn the reader into the story and scenes therein, rather than making the reader feel as if he/she were a member of an audience or congregation listening to a speech or sermon being delivered.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Start to finish, to tell you the truth.
    Any additional comments?
Pick up the book, and enjoy it 10x as much.
    Narrator, Richard Allen, Excellent
What did you love best about Twelve Years a Slave?
The story is gripping. The narrator brings it to life.
What does Richard Allen bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Marvelous voice for the main character
    Dictionary
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Words that did not require a dictionary or not having to wait until the whole sentence or paragraph was read to know exactly what the author was talking about.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
    Did not finish the book
Would you be willing to try another one of Richard Allens performances?
    No
What character would you cut from Twelve Years a Slave?
    Did not finish the book.
Everyone should read or listen to this.
What made the experience of listening to Twelve Years a Slave the most enjoyable?
The truth and honesty that was not always pleasant to hear.
The way in which people can survive in the most inhumane situations and still have faith and show kindness to on another.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Solomon northup because he was a genuine kind person whom survived and done the best he could always.
Have you listened to any of Richard Allens other performances? How does this one compare?
I haven't listened to any other performances by Richard Allen and if completely honest it took me a couple of chapters to relate to his voice but once I heard more I could imagine completely that it was how Solomon spoke and by the end of the audio I loved his voice. I would be happy listening to him many more times.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
All of the above. I felt so moved that it once was part of our society and cried many times at the cruelty people showed to others. I have always felt very strongly that slavery is and was disgusting and found the part about how the slaves were whipped for pleasure and they would also be so cruelly whipped for the slightest thing.
