One of the few things we can count in life is adversity, and possibly the greatest measure of our character is how we handle it when it finally comes. For Jaimie Sherling, author of "From Queens to Queens: How the Madison Drag Community Saved My Life", that adversity came in the form of an aggressive breast cancer diagnosis amid a rapidly crumbling marriage, and this week on the show, Jaimie sits down with me to share her story.

This week I'm joined by author Fonda Lee, whose upcoming novel "Jade Legacy" caps off her expansive adult fantasy trilogy "The Green Bone Saga." Inspired in part by martial arts and gangster films, "The Green Bone Saga" is a compulsively readable epic that I have become absolutely hooked on, and on this episode we talk about the work that went into building that world, the challenges of writing sequels, Fonda's favorite films, the perpetual nightmare that is Twitter, and so much more.
You can find more information about Fonda at her website, or follow her on Twitter and Instagram.

Some people know what they want to do right away, others try their hands at many things, eventually returning to the one they love most; Boston-based musician Eliot Wilder falls firmly into the latter category. Performing as The Revenants, Wilder's albums have incorporated sounds as disparate as rock, country, bluegrass, dub, prog, even electronica, and the latest Revenants record to hit streaming - "Intruder" - is no exception. Listeners to this show will get to hear lead-off single, "The Rose of Jericho" in full!
The Revenants have released more than 1000 original songs across 120+ albums since completing "The Stranger" in 2019, and show no signs of slowing down.
Eliot joined me in June to discuss his life and catalog up to that point and it's a ride - his past as a frontman and photographer in LA, the book he wrote about DJ Shadow, and a whole lot more.

This week I had the great fortune of sitting down with Steve Jenner, Ian Turner, and Ellis Turner from the hot new UK band Damn Good Liars. Their eponymous debut EP landed earlier this year and they've already twice been featured on the BBC Radio show "Introducing" and their first-ever live gig is fast approaching. The trio talk about how they came together, why it's always important to write down your tuning, and how the job of an artist is to capture a moment in time.

Talking about men's health can be a difficult thing, even more so when the topic is testicular cancer, but Marc Semler and the AZ-based Blue Pint Society have been working hard to change that. Semler started BPS in 2014 and in the years since has raised thousands of dollars for the Testicular Cancer Awareness Foundation through events like Beer School, the 15th installment of which is coming up on October 23rd, 2021.
On this episode, up-and-coming singer/songwriter Michael Labella joins me to talk about his latest EP, "What I Become", his experience as part of Brooklyn-based record label Leesta Vall's "Direct to Vinyl" live sessions, playing gigs during the pandemic, and much more.

In his new science fiction thriller, "Dare to Know", author James Kennedy tells the story of a near-future where corporations can pinpoint the exact moment of your death and will sell the knowledge to you for a price. On this episode, James joins me to talk about the book, video game urban legends, the value of loneliness and so much more
