Gripping true love story. Must read.

I am putting this out there for my friends and family to see. I am proud to have read this book recently written by one of my grade school classmates wife. Kittie Preas Koukalik.

How Can I Keep From Singing.

This is a true story, based on life, love, loss, faith, hope and second chances.

A short read but gripping, could not put it down.

Please, if you get a chance buy her book and experience an amazing journey.

Wonderful Book!

This is a wonderful book written by an excellent author. I admire her bravery, honesty and openness in which some critics would find too personal and perhaps, too much information, but it's life and it happens, take it or leave it. I take it, because it is life, and because it was more important for her to share it than it was to keep it bottled up inside of her. I am going to give my copy to my daughter. It will help her deal with the loss she has experienced in recent years. I enjoyed reading it, and loved the way it ended. Healing comes in different ways. Who are we to judge?

I cried. laughed and cried some more. Personally know this wonderful lady but had no idea the extent of her tragic life. Very well written

Heart warming, wrenching, and healing!

I have not met Kittie but her story moved me greatly. So many times death comes unexpectedly and takes a great toll on the surviving loved ones. Kittie loved, lost, fell, dusted herself off and got up again. It is a journey many of us will take during our life times. The fact that she learned to love again is a testement to the first love of her life who taught her that love in ones life is worth finding- even a second time.

The book is an easy read - you won't want to put it down ...

Good for the Heart and Soul

I just finished reading "The Letter" by Pam Brooks Newberry and I loved it. It is a great job of sharing feelings honestly and without apology.

I could relate to her story so well as I never met my biological father until I was 62 years old, I am now 65.

But having said that, it would not be necessary for anyone to have a common experience in order for this book to be appreciated for what it is. It's Great, Pam Brooks Newberry did an outstanding job of sharing a story that she needed to give to the world and I believe this book will help anyone with family reservations even if they lived with their parents in their youth as she and I certainly did not.

I will close in saying that I am looking forward to her âThough The Gatewayâ book that I should receive from Amazon in the next day or so. I am now a fan.

It makes me especially proud that I too was a Virginia Baptist Children's Home Kid and that I have a friend like Pam Brooks Newberry

THE LETTER: A Springboard for Reflection

Having known the author in her early years through shared school and church life, I was eager to support her writing efforts and looked forward to reading her story. I was very touched by "Pam's story" and how she shared it, with honesty and a vulnerability that not many of us could muster even as a mature adult. I appreciated the detailed descriptions of her life, then and now, and I got to know her and appreciate her in new ways through the depth of her reflections. Pam is a gifted writer who never again needs to doubt if she can write. She has shared herself, through her writing, in a masterful way. While THE LETTER is her personal story, she shares it with such universality that it can't help but speak to any reader and cause that reader to reflect on his/her own life and the relationships and experiences that have contributed to it.

Great book to read especially when you have family questions.

I read this book last night. Wow. It was heartfelt. Pam did a wonderful job putting her feelings down on paper. Exploring your pass is difficult enough but dealing with it is something else. Pam now has closure on some family issues. My mother and uncle spent time in an orphanage so I understand questions you have. We never got those answers. I am so glad Pam did.

All the feels

I downloaded samples of Brendan Halpin's work on my Kindle after reading some editorial comments by him on a website I frequent. I liked his sass and smarts, and thought I'd see if that carried in to his writing. This book, about his wife's battle with stage-4 breast cancer pulled me right in. It was like sitting with my best friend and talking real, no holds barred emotions about how terrible and horrible and wonderful life is. It's a love story and that love is on full display here, but not in a schmaltz, cheesy way. He writes love, anger, frustration well, and if you're not a robot or space alien, you know those feelings. He also has pretty great taste in music, as he mentions several albums and artists throughout that had me rushing to download. This book moved me to tears and laughter, and had me doing some reflecting on my own life. I will be checking out the rest of Halpin's back catalog.

Loss and Lessons

What a beautiful story. How difficult it must have been for this man to write this. As a cancer patient, a well a the caregiver of others with cancer. sometimes it is easier to BE the patient, than to watch the we love go through the struggle.

It just feels REAL.

Missing all of the sappiness of some cancer memoirs, and uniquely told from the husband's perspective. What this book is lacking in comprehensiveness (you won't find All You Need to Know about anything here) and cohesiveness (its journal style kind of jumps about from place to place), it makes up for in sheer down-to-earth reality, alternative between optimism and pessimism, soaring and crashing by turns. A really good personal memoir from a talented author.

Incredible book!

This is the most amazing book I've ever read. Mr. Halpin writes with amazing honesty about his experience, without whitewash or apology. The book bounces back and forth between hilarious episodes that are all the more funny because often the people around them don't get it, to the laid-bare terror of dealing with cancer in someone you love and can't imagine living without. I can't stand sentimental books, and this isn't one, and yet some of his revelations took my breath away with their poignancy and honesty. I tend to be a library borrower rather than a book buyer, but this is one to own.
