Mother Nature stole the spotlight in Week One of the high school football season, with delays and cancellations outpacing the games themselves. We recap the chaos and look ahead to this week's slate.

Another high school football season in Las Vegas starts Aug. 15. The Sun’s Case Keefer and Ray Brewer return for another edition of “Prep Sports Now” to preview the action. Like usual — they can’t seem to agree. Give it a listen.

The Raiders return to the practice field for the first time in more than six weeks this morning at the team’s Henderson headquarters with much to sort out.

New coach Klint Kubiak’s first training camp begins with several jobs undetermined ahead of Las Vegas’ season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 13 at Allegiant Stadium and even its preseason debut hosting the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 13. The Raiders expect to have players facing off in practice for the first-team snaps at quarterback, wide receiver and most of the offensive line spots, for starters.

“For every position, there’s got to be competition,” Kubiak said shortly after players were required to report to the facility Tuesday morning. “The best player has to play.”

The Eastside Cannery went quietly into the Las Vegas night.

At 2 a.m. Thursday, with little fanfare, a wave of explosives rippled through the floors of the building’s remaining structure before it collapsed — no fireworks, no drone light show, none of the spectacle that has become synonymous with Las Vegas casino implosions over the years.

A dust cloud swallowed the rubble for nearly a minute, and just like that, another piece of the valley was gone.
