Arbor View travels to Liberty on Friday for the regional semifinals in a battle of class 5A powers. In a season of lopsided defeats, this is the game we have been waiting for. Either team can win. Either team can lose. Both teams have Division I players. Yes, Friday can't get here fast enough!
The high school football season is down to the final week of the regular season. The week is highlighted by two games: Desert Pines at Liberty in the class 5A, and the Hammer Game between rivals Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley. We discuss that and more in another edition of Prep Sports Now.
The UNLV football team had its best start to the season in recent memory in winning four of its initial five games. And while they were blown out last week against San Jose State, the program is sitting in unfamiliar ground needing two wins over the remaining six games to qualify for a postseason bowl game. We discuss that and more in another edition of the Rebel Room.
One school was limited to negative-8 yards last week in a 51-0 defeat; another school crossed midfield just once in its game; nine of the 17 games were played under the mercy rule of a running clock. The mercy rule comes into play when a team leads by 35 or more points. Painfully it is coming into play in the first quarter of some games. We discuss the lopsided scores and more on another edition of Prep Sports Now.
The Sun's Case Keefer and Ray Brewer are back talking about high school football in Las Vegas, talking a look at the Week 7 contests on the horizon and revisiting last week's games. Take a listen.
The Sun's Case Keefer and Ray Brewer take a look at another week of high school football games throughout Southern Nevada. For most schools, it's the start of league play, including a heavyweight showdown between Bishop Gorman and Arbor View. We, of course, also take a look back at last week's games.
We give our praise to the Arbor View football team, who this season has beat teams from Utah and Arizona. Take a listen to Case Keefer and Ray Brewer on another edition of Prep Sports Now.
The Sun's Danny Webster fills in for Case Keefer on this edition of Prep Sports Now. Danny and Ray take a look at this week's games, including Bishop Gorman and Arbor View playing in the Polynesian Football Classic.
By virtue of winning the opener over Idaho State last week, UNLV is sitting at 1-0 for the first time since 2019. And that presents Marcus Arroyo’s squad with a golden opportunity as they prepare to travel to face Cal on Saturday, because if they manage to score an upset victory to improve to 2-0, their bowl odds will shoot through the roof.
There could be a new favorite in the class 3A. Defending state champion Moapa Valley is always a threat to represent Southern Nevada in the state semifinals, but a new contender could be emerging in Slam Academy. And don't forget about Virgin Valley. We discuss this and more — including Bishop Gorman's loss to Mater Dei — in another episode of Prep Sports Now.
