  • Episode 189: I Wish This Was FF6 [Golden Sun]
When the world needs a hero, it looks to the JRPG protagonist: stolid, inoffensive, generally teenaged.  Throw in some magic spirits that can be swapped during combat to summon giant monsters, and a sprawling overworld, and you've got yourself a solid game.  Will Isaac save the world?  Will our narrators quit out of boredom before that happens? 2 Earth djinn and 2 Internet djinn make a Download class. Show Notes (02:00) Zach’s only human, so he’s playing Mass Effect Andromeda (21:00) Shovel Knight, Available on Steam with all DLC included for free!  Also every console. (22:30) Team Four Star Does Dragon Ball Super. (24:00) Dragon Ball Super!  If you only watch one episode, Geremy highly recommends this one. (26:00) The assignment, Golden Sun. (34:00) All About Random Battles (49:00) Here’s our episode on the superlative Final Fantasy VI since we’re comparing them so much. (55:00) It's Ranking Time! NOTE: A quick correction here.  Zach played the wrong game, so we're not doing Fantasy Zone 2 next week. Next time on Last Time, Mighty Bomb Jack! • Episode 188: Now Bikes Think They're Philosophizers [Enduro Racer]
Nothing is a metaphor for life quite the way racing over various obstacles within time limits is -- apparently.  Wheelie over jumps, dodge rocks, and pass other racers in your frantic attempt to make it to the finish line before there's no time left to try.  This is an experience that can only leave you thinking "Yay bikes". Downloads are a metaphor for sound-noises. Next time on Last Time, Golden Sun! RAGNAROK! [email protected],  [email protected],  [email protected],  or [email protected].  You can also go to the show page at plus.google.com/+LastTimeOnVideogames or comment on the site at www.lasttimeonvideogames.com.  Also, you can follow our tweets @LTOVG.

  • Episode 187: Stars of Rage [Mario Party 2]
Famous for destroying hands and friendships, our first look at Mario Party was made infinitely better by actually getting together and playing it.  Featuring... adjectiveless minigames and actually amusingly themed boards, this game steps in to fill the niche of people who want to hang out and play video games, but nothing too serious, right? For the low price of 50 coins, Boo's got your download. Show Notes (00:45) For people who can not see through their ears, Kevin was wearing this hat and this shirt. (02:45) A rundown of what Kevin's been watching. Boko no Hero Academia, a show one reviewer claimed was "the future of shonen" KADO: The Right Answer, described as "a good TV show" Love Tyrant, which is "complete and utter trash; but you'll love it for it" Berserk, whose "CGI....hurts a bit" Attack on Titan.  Just watch that intro if you haven't yet. Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor, which apparently has a bad first episode, so just stick with it, guys The Royal Tutor, a well-crafted comedy Alice & Zoroku, tagged as "Old Man Gets Thrown into Magical Girl Genre".  Frankly, I want to watch that one Eromanga Sensei: exactly what it sounds like Tsugumomo Sakura Quest, a delightful looking show about a bunch of women have a quarter life crisis and transitioning into tourism Clockwork Planet, a "clockpunk fantasy" KADO: The Right Answer, which I'm describing as Big O with an alien and fewer robots Hinako Note, a "moeblob slice of life" Kenka Bancho Otome -Girl Beats Boys-, basically Mulan Tsukigakirei, subtitled "as the moon, so beautiful".  Looks like a decent slice of life romance WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?, winner of the most ridiculous title award (04:00) The most exciting library adventures available! (09:30) I'm not cutting this; open source anime time! (11:30) Royal Tutor's theme. (12:15) Dead Cells!  Also NeverDead, since Zach mentioned it. (30:00) Zach's playing Dark Souls 3.  We died of shock. (33:15) Aw, rats. (43:00) Poor Toes. (48:00) Tyler's finally playing Persona 3.  We died of shock again. (58:30) Not sure if it's the right scene, but having your future daughter throw a smoke bomb works fine. (1:04:00) Our Let's Play of Mario Party 2 was mildly entertaining. (1:14:00) Will this game be the party star?! Next time on Last Time, Enduro Racer! Not quite excited for bikes?  Talk to us about that at [email protected],  [email protected],  [email protected],  or [email protected].  You can also go to the show page at plus.google.com/+LastTimeOnVideogames or comment on the site at www.lasttimeonvideogames.com.  Also, you can follow our tweets @LTOVG.

  • Episode 186: As Exciting As A Post Office [Postal 2]
When everyone around you is a terrible person, sometimes the only option is to respond in kind.  Or patiently wait in line, but that takes forever.  In a game whose tagline was ""Remember, it's only as violent as you are!", it's really only as violent as you are patient.  Seeming to take most of its cues from the, at the time, much more controversial "ban all video games" political scene, this game attempts to poke fun at people whose morals need to be applied to everyone but themselves and...  Well, that's it, really.  Everyone else is collateral.  Have fun!(?) Downloads are probably more effective silencers than cats. Show Notes (03:15) Sm4sh DLC was apparently a bit cheaper than Tyler remembered. (06:30) The Switch Pro controller looks like a 360 controller with a better D-pad, but less ergonomic styling. (16:45) Because at least one of us keeps forgetting, Cross Ange is the show about scantily clad women fighting dragons with mechs, and the cast makes an appearance in Super Robot Wars V. (25:00) PERSONA!  Is having a ranged weapon better than an Evoker? (41:30) Brief gender politics and BOTW.  Since we mention it, Aaron Diaz (most recently of Dresden Codak), sketched up a nifty Zelda idea where the eponymous princess is a techno-mage a few years back. (51:30) Getting around to Postal. (1:02:00) Rankings!  Hint: it's bad. Next time on Last Time, Mario Party 2! Free controller stress gloves from [email protected],  [email protected],  [email protected],  or [email protected].  You can also go to the show page at plus.google.com/+LastTimeOnVideogames or comment on the site at www.lasttimeonvideogames.com.  Also, you can follow our tweets @LTOVG.

  • Episode 185: Monster Bro [Wonder Boy in Monster Land]
There comes a time in every young, skateboarding cave-boy's life to pick up the sword and shield of his ancestors and deliver a beatdown on some monsters.  Saving princesses is already second nature to young Wonder Lad, and it's time for the lad to become a boy!  Explore a surprisingly metroidvania landscape before it was really known as a thing, and try to figure out how ceramic armor works so well against swords. Ceramic Download! Show Notes (02:00) This is what blast processing was. Very technical. (06:00) Scrooge Vs Shovel Knight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUG5LUHlgq4 (10:00) The Assignment: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. That came out in 1987 right? Potential spoilers. (53:00) The actual assignment, Wonder Boy in Monster Land (1:03:30) Geremy lied; Aladdin and the King of Thieves was not theatrically released, but Robin Williams did return to play Genie. (1:04:00) Ranking Time!  Next time on Last Time,  Postal 2! Comedy is subjective at [email protected],  [email protected],  [email protected],  or [email protected].  You can also go to the show page at plus.google.com/+LastTimeOnVideogames or comment on the site at www.lasttimeonvideogames.com.  Also, you can follow our tweets @LTOVG.

  • Episode 184: Woah. I Know Kung Fu. [Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll]
Embark on an epic kung fu odyssey to avenge your master.  Juan, truly the best teacher, wrote all of his secrets down on scrolls, but never gave any to his only student, Ryuhi.  When they all get stolen, Ryuhi finds the best scroll, like no scroll ever was, and goes on a killing spree to get the other ones back.  Righteous! Dragon download straight to the face! Show Notes (01:30) Legit promotional material put out for Kung Fu Panda. (03:00) Probably the BTAS episode Geremy's talking about. (04:15) Justice League vs. BTAS. Mr. Sims rants about how got the intro is. (15:00) Fox fun! (18:00) I'm not linking Galgun again.  You have Google. (25:00) Because Fire Emblem needs more bunnies. (34:30) Not dying is hard. (42:00) The ZeRo match Tyler was talking about, if you can stand ZeRo's voice. (37:45) Not our poll, but we should contribute to SCIENCE! Pick the best Starburst. (53:00) Kung Fu Time! (1:02:00) How does this game rank up? Next time on Last Time, Wonder Boy in Monster Land! Gleefully slaughtering monsters at [email protected],  [email protected],  [email protected],  or [email protected].  You can also go to the show page at plus.google.com/+LastTimeOnVideogames or comment on the site at www.lasttimeonvideogames.com.  Also, you can follow our tweets @LTOVG.

  • Episode 183: Sick Turns on Rainbow Road [Mario Kart 64]
Nothing says "family friendly racing" like driving down a highway at rush hour while lobbing projectiles at your unwary friends!  Now with 80% less eye bleeding, Mario Kart is back.  In addition to slightly better racing, battle stages add some variety to the mix by allowing to do what you really want in a racing game: duke it out in an arena with some bananas.  Karting just got serious! Seeking its way onto your computer like a red shell. Show Notes (07:00) Yugioh Duel Links has mediocre net play, but you can make silly decks! (10:00) Maiden with Eyes of Blue and Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon (11:10) The sweet opening to Attack on Titan if you, like Geremy, are one of the 5 people who havn’t seen it. Also, spoilers until 11:45 (19:30) New additions to the series that started with Mario Kart 64 (24:30) Zach talks about some of his favorite courses in another racing game, Shift. (26:20) Time Trials and Shortcuts. (31:50) Will this game make the podium?! Next time on Last Time, Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll! The secret is face punching! • Episode 182: Kremkoin For Your Thoughts? [Donkey Kong Country 2]
More fun than an armed gorilla movement!  Diddy, the chimpanzee, must rescue his best bud from the evil K. Rool's clutches, and restore the traditional heir of the island to his banana throne.  With the help of Dixie, Diddy's mutant girlfriend, they'll wade their way through the reptile armies and surprisingly visually diverse landscapes.  Monkey joke! More fun than a barrel full of bits! Show Notes (03:30) How is this a warrior? (06:45) Spoiler for Zestiria, a game you're not likely to play. (15:00) HELLDIVE! (18:00) Pepsi rangers.  Some spoilers for Power Rangers (the new movie) ending around 21:30 if you're worried. (25:40) Yes, there was a Battletech cartoon.  Yes, it looks awful.  So does the DnD cartoon.  Wake up, Kid Icarus! (28:50) More DnD stories in case anyone wants them. (33:30) Because we're terrible 90s kids, the song we can't remember is All The Small Things. (35:30) Monkey business. (37:00) New fan theory: K. Rool is funded by the Mushroom Kingdom. (42:00) "Tightness" (43:00) Unsurprisingly, wire frames were used for the base character models.  Still cannot find a video of this ever happening to anyone else, though. (45:00) To clarify, DK Coins, while objectively cooler, only increase the rank Cranky gives you.  Kremkoins let you access the bonus levels. (46:30) K-rank-y Kong. Next time on Last Time, Mario Kart 64! Peel out and other banana jokes at [email protected],  [email protected],  [email protected],  or [email protected].  You can also go to the show page at plus.google.com/+LastTimeOnVideogames or comment on the site at www.lasttimeonvideogames.com.  Also, you can follow our tweets @LTOVG.

  • Episode 181: Cool Guy Pose [Contra III: The Alien Wars]
When the situation is bad, it's time to get rad!  When you need revenge, you should attack aggressively, which is exactly what not-Jimmy and not-Bimmy intend to do on their testosterone fueled rampage against their alien bureaucrats.  Avoid timed obstacles, fight almost-3D bosses, and generally be a bad enough dude to survive! Double laser download! Show Notes (Notes for the show!) (01:55) Spoilers for Logan if you haven’t seen it and care about those. (03:00) Tyler is talking about the opening cinematic for DCU Online (04:00) Tyler’s still playing Tales of Zestiria.  It's a Sorey Storey. (14:00) Fuel is the game Geremy was trying to think of. (17:30) Prolific Voice Actor Stephen Blum (20:30) Apparently the rights to Megas XLR were used in some sort of tax writeoff and a revival isn’t a thing that can happen. (26:30) Top Down levels! (32:20) Contra III: The Alien Rankings Next time on Last Time, Donkey Kong Country 2! • Episode 180: You Build Your Walls, I Dig My Hole [Stronghold]
Good fences make good neighbors, and better walls make corpses of your enemies!  Manage the happiness of your ingrate peasant population as you try to stave off endless attacks from your political rivals.   It's easier if they're entertained, though, so train that one bear the hunters brought back to dance, and see if that gets them off your back for a while.  What's that sign say?  Wolves in 10 minutes? Boiling tar on your downloads! Show Notes (01:45) Proving that we live in the worst Star Wars AU. (03:15) Alex won the Great Island 'Dex Completion Challenge.  Also Ed. (05:00) Generic villains, represent. (07:45) Apparently, you can also say "March 9th as Miku", so obviously this happened. (08:45) So... shiny! (13:30) Europa, for the interested, is apparently the mother of the Minotaur.  Contrast with Europea. (19:15) Too much moe. (24:30) In case y'all don't know what a Caesar cipher is.  It's named this way because Julius actually used it to protect military intelligence. (30:00) Food!  Farming wheat: OP and supply-chain accurate. (34:30) We were all wrong.  Pikes are long spears meant for blocking horses, and a halberd is a spear with an ax on the end. (48:00) Celebrating the rank and file. Next time on Last Time, Contra III! And then the war came to [email protected],  [email protected],  [email protected],  or [email protected].  You can also go to the show page at plus.google.com/+LastTimeOnVideogames or comment on the site at www.lasttimeonvideogames.com.  Also, you can follow our tweets @LTOVG.
