Justin McClure calls October 21st his second birthday because that's the day he got sober (October 21st, 2012). Sobriety can be tough. In this episode, Justin and Ami talk about the steps taken to achieve sobriety and how some of the things Justin did can work for you. Addiction comes in many shapes and sizes, and Justin's honesty might be something you relate to.

Do parents have a favorite child? Is it ok to have a favorite child? In this episode, we talk about some feedback and comments that deal with folks thinking we have a favorite (child). The truth is we love our kids the same, all of them. We have three kids: Ava, Alexis, and Jersey, and have equal love for them all. It's our job to care for our children, provide for them; only judgments of their actions and personality could grant one as a favorite.

Guess what?! We've been chosen as promotional talent for the 2020 Olympics! This is a big deal for us and something we're very proud of! We try to make content that is inspiring, entertaining, and positive. It feels great to have a brand like NBC and the Olympics want to work with us. The kids are in school (Montessori). Jersey and the twins, Ava and Alexis, all attend the same school. The girls have adjusted fine in Georgia, they are having a great time, and their teachers say they are leaders in the classroom and model students. Jersey is also doing well - he could be the most polite baby ever! His teacher says that Jersey is super smart, puts things away, listens well, and helps other students. We are so proud of our kids.
So what is Dad's fault? You'll have to listen! lol, but it was a golf outing gone crazy. Maybe Justin McClure (dad) should not have let the twins drive the golf cart!

We started out wanting to talk about the kids in school - they just started in Atlanta (Montessori), but the conversation derails into a recent video incident where Ami had a "wardrobe incident". Ami and Justin McClure keep the conversation tone about the incident and the etiquette of families and those who present perfection. The McClure Family "brand" is about realness and being authentic, and we hope this humanizes ourselves to you. We make mistakes because we are a small team. Mistakes happen, we love the criticism and open opinions, but there is a line to be drawn with disrespect and blatant rudeness.

As our popularity grows, so does the criticism we get surrounding our family business. Some people feel that what our kids do is considered "work", but that is far from the case. Our kids do what they love and a lot of that is truly PLAY! They get paid to PLAY! Even then, what is the true harm in children doing parent-guided work, no matter the field. Last week, Ami and I were invited to speak at TEDxBismarck on the topic of managing a family and business when your family is the business. If you don't know what a TED Talk is; It is a conference bringing together visionaries and experts to discuss topics of interests within their industry. This was the first time both Ami and I were invited to speak together and of course, we flew with the entire family to North Dakota. We spoke about the keys to building a family while you work together and the importance of defining your specific roles in the family and the business. Everything we shared at the Talk, and even the information we divulged and dug deeper into in this podcast, can be applied to any business, ESPECIALLY family businesses across all industries.
