  • Avoid Neck Strain While Traveling (Part 1) - John Bonawitz 11/7/15
John Bonawitz Creator of Myllow the world’s first adjustable travel pillow!

With the holidays fast approaching, many of us will be traveling great distances to spend time with our loved ones. Whether sitting in a plane, train or automobile, chances are that our personal comfort will take a back seat. Joining Mark this week is John Bonawitz, creator of the Myllow, the world’s first adjustable travel pillow.
They discuss a solution that will make this year’s journey to Grandma’s house a lot more comfortable.
John and Mark talk about why a neck pillow is a good idea for traveling?
John talks about working with a chiropractor and how the human neck curves slightly forward (to sustain the weight of the head when upright), and why it’s important to maintain this curve when in a resting position. Myllow does this while molding to the shape of your neck to alleviate pressure preventing the head from bending too far to one side or the other. It also creates a support so that the weight of the head is partially taken care of by the Myllow.
The Myllow was created because the most common complaint by travelers is Neck Strain. The cervical spine, or neck, begins at the base of the skull and through a series of seven vertebral segments connects to the thoracic, or chest region of the spine. These facet joints can wear down over time and lead to cervical spinal stenosis or osteoarthritis. The Myllow fits around the neck to help avoid neck strain by providing head support while resting or sleeping in a sitting position during travel. If you travel with any sort of frequency, the Myllow will help protect you from any lasting strain.

  • Processed Meats Cause Cancer (Part 1) - Dr. Mike Fenster 11/7/15
    Mike Fenster, MD and Chef
Dr. Mike and Mark Alyn discuss A new study today from the World Health Organization (WHO) that says processed meats causes cancer.

Dr. Mike Fenster, author of The Fallacy of the Calorie: Why the Modern Western Diet is Killing Us and How to Stop It," talks with Mark about the dangers of processed foods and the Standard American Diet (S.A.D.) As a Board-Certified interventional cardiologist AND culinary chef, he has been discussing this concept for years.

In fact, last year, he was quoted saying, "Despite conventional thinking, the consumption of fresh meat that isn't over-processed has not been associated with any increased risk of heart disease, cancer or mortality. In contrast to fresh red meat, the consumption of high processed meat like that typically used in deli sandwiches are proven to be associated with an increased risk of heart disease, cancer or mortality."

Dr. Mike discusses his points following the new WHO information:
There's substantial difference between wholesome, fresh, unprocessed foods and their industrialized, adulterated counterparts. Although for many years, lumped together as a single entity for consideration, red meat is no exception.

Previous studies including a Harvard meta analysis suggested this as far back as 2010! These researchers present strong evidence for association between the consumption of processed red meats and an increased risk in the development of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and early mortality. Dr. Mike and Mark talk how the same analysis did NOT show any correlation in the ingestion of fresh red meat and such disabilities at any level of consumption.
