  • A New Way To Age Gracefully!
Greg Macpherson, pharmacist and author of, “Harnessing the Nine Hallmarks of Aging” (March 2021) says COVID-19 will change a lot of things, especially how and where we age in the future. The pandemic has shown a spotlight on many problems from how fragile our immune systems can be to how unsafe long-term healthcare facilities are, where 40% of COVID-19 deaths have taken place. This being the case, many end-of-life experts believe nursing homes will soon go out of business and the future of our longevity is truly our own responsibility and perhaps even something we will need to learn to do in our own home. Greg visits with Mark Alyn on this edition of Late Night Health.

  • NEWLY DIAGNOSED: Building a Better Life with Parkinson's Disease
In 2019, the Parkinson’s Foundation launched NEWLY DIAGNOSED: Building a Better Life with Parkinson's Disease, a new campaign designed to arm people who are newly diagnosed with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to navigate life with Parkinson’s disease. The goal of the newly diagnosed program is to close the gap between being newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and knowing where and how to find the right information and resources to live the best life possible with Parkinson’s. In fact, a Parkinson’s Foundation survey found nearly 50% of people with Parkinson’s and their care partners leave the doctor’s office following a diagnosis without educational resources or information on what the future holds. Mark Alyn chats with John Lehr, president of the Parkinson's Foundation and Liz Brouillard is a social worker and Clinical Director at a non-profit, outpatient mental health clinic in Massachusetts who works to educate newly diagnosed people with Parkinson’s and their family members.

  • Operation Scrubs - Thank A Nurse
Just say “thank you.” That’s the mission of Operation Scrubs…having one billion people worldwide say “thank you” to the 27 million nurses around the globe, the unsung frontline heroes who care for us, who are the eyes and ears of the doctor when he or she isn’t there.

Leave your “Thank You” on the permanent virtual wall at www.thankanurseteamchallenge.org.

That’s it. No cost to participate. Very little time or effort spent.

Yet a message that will mean a great deal to those who give so much. Especially after the last year. Especially during May, National Nurses Week, May 6 to 12, and all year long.

Ask Pamela Jane Nye, CEO of Operations Scrubs and Neuroscience Nursing, who was named “the Nurse of the Year” for excellence in nursing at a large Los Angeles medical center. She’s an advocate for educating and honoring nurses. Pamala joins Mark Alyn on this edition of Late Night Health.

  • Honey on the Page
Wonder how best to pass down and preserve their Jewish identity in an increasingly secularized culture.

Miriam Udel, a rabbi, mother, professor of Yiddish language and Literature at Emory University, and the winner of the 2017 National Jewish Book Award, introduces modern-day families to translated versions of the cherished fairy tales, fables, folklore, and poems originally written in Yiddish over a century ago.

In HONEY ON THE PAGE: A Treasury of Yiddish Children’s Literature (NYU Press), Miriam Udel presents an unprecedented collection of nearly 50 traditional Yiddish stories and rhymes for youngsters translated into English. As Udel shares, she became interested in reclaiming this largely lost body of literature through the convergence of two pathways: her work as a Yiddish language teacher and her vocation as a mother. Combing through hundreds of anthologies and free-standing storybooks, as well as several years’ worth of periodicals, she sought authentic pieces of Yiddish prose and verse that would at once represent their times and places of origin and engage and resonate with today’s young readers.

  • What’s Next For Tackling COVID? Vaccines And Herd Immunity Explained
The World Health Organization (WHO) tells us that herd immunity is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is largely immune, preferably through vaccinations but also through previous infection.

You see, vaccines train our immune systems to create proteins that fight disease, known as antibodies, just as would happen when we are exposed to a disease. But – crucially – vaccines create immunity without causing illness or resulting complications. Vaccinated people are protected from getting the disease and passing on the pathogen, breaking any chains of transmission. Dr. Ben Stong visits with Mark Alyn on this edition of Late Night Health.

  • Parkinson’s Awareness Month
April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, which provides a critically important reminder that each year 60,000 people are newly diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and more than one million Americans are currently living with the neurodegenerative disease. That’s why the non-profit Parkinson’s Foundation is working to make life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. Studies show that three out of four people with Parkinson’s do not receive medications on time when staying in the hospital, and that when this occurs two out of three will experience unnecessary complications. In response to this problem, the Parkinson’s Foundation has created the Aware in Care kit to help the 1/3 of people with Parkinson’s receive hospital care each year. The Aware in Care kit helps those affected by PD to be “aware in care”, which means they understand hospitalization risks, have the tools to play an active role in their care, are prepared for planned or unplanned hospital visits and ultimately have a plan to get the best possible care while in the hospital.

  • Health And Taxes
I’m a number one best-selling author, captivating speaker and hope-restoring coach to women like you who want to do good work in the world, but believe they deserve to earn damn good money doing it. And if you didn’t feel that way before half a second ago, then I assure you, you’re in the right place!

This philosophy is what has really set me apart from other “financial experts” over the last decade. I recognize that I drive some of the personal finance gurus crazy and I’m 100% okay with that.

I will never apologize for teaching women that living a disciplined, yet fulfilled life and expecting opportunities to overtake you at every turn is way freakin’ better than forcing yourself to live a Starbucks-free life of deprivation so you can “save for a rainy day.” Despite the naysayers, there are tons of folks who have been attracted to my fresh take on this money stuff.
