Late Night Lake Show

Claire De Lune of The Guardian and tiny deaths joins Ricky for a wide-ranging, hilarious, and surprisingly deep Lakers conversation. They break down the 17–6 start, Luka’s MVP-level takeover, Austin Reaves’ leap into All-Star territory, and what LeBron’s latest ramp-up actually means for his future. From locker-room stories to artist comparisons — including Queen, Freddie Mercury, and 50 Cent — Claire brings a unique blend of basketball insight, music background, and storytelling that only she can deliver. Other topics inside:

• Whether the Lakers are closing the gap on OKC
• The front office shift under Mark Walter
• Trade deadline expectations
• LeBron knowing Claire’s name (!?)
• The theater, swagger, and petty genius of Luka Dončić
• Why Austin Reaves is “him”
• Life going from Minnesota to L.A. to The Guardian
• The artist that best captures Luka’s game (and Ricky’s pick)

The Lakers are 2–1, but the drama’s already elite.

Luka opened the season like a created player with every slider maxed — until injuries hit. Austin Reaves dropped 51, 11, and 9 and made “Hillbilly Kobe” a real thing. Ayton finally showed life down low, and the NBA just got rocked by its biggest gambling scandal in decades — with coaches, players, and the mob all tangled up. Ricky and Kwame are joined by Jody to break down the hot start, what’s real vs hype, and why this early-season chaos might actually be good for LA.

The Lakers open the 2025–26 season without LeBron James, who’s out with sciatica for at least the first month. That means Luka Dončić officially runs the show — and the pressure is on. In this episode, Ricky and Kwame break down what life without LeBron looks like, whether JJ Redick’s calm approach will keep the team afloat, and how guys like Austin Reaves, Gabe Vincent, and Deandre Ayton can step up early. Then we dive into the off-court chaos that hijacked Lakers Monday: Lou Williams calling out LeBron’s “Decision 2.0” Hennessy ad, Stephen A. Smith claiming Bron set him up courtside, and Russell Westbrook’s “fake” comments resurfacing. It’s all happening before the Lakers even tip off — and we’re here for every headline, every hot take, and every ounce of preseason drama. Topics include:

• LeBron officially out 3–4 weeks (sciatica)
• Luka Dončić: ready to carry LA?
• Gabe Vincent in the starting five
• Deandre Ayton’s role & expectations
• JJ Redick’s coaching debut
• The LeDrama Triple Threat (Lou Will, Stephen A., Russ)
• Predictions for Warriors vs. Lakers opener

The Lakers are 0–2 in the preseason, but JJ Redick isn’t worried — and maybe that’s the point.
In Episode 206, Ricky and Kwame dive into the early storylines shaping the 2025–26 Lakers:

🏀 Topics Covered:

• The “Patience Plan” — Are slow starts part of Redick’s blueprint or a real concern?
• Bench Auditions — Vincent, Vando, Knecht, and R.J. Davis making early cases for rotation spots.
• Ayton’s Identity Shift — Is he evolving into the defensive anchor the Lakers need, or being underused next to LeBron and Luka?
• Preseason Chemistry Check — What two games in tells us about habits, rhythm, and readiness.

The vibes are high, the habits are forming, but the question remains:
Will patience pay off — or put the Lakers behind again?

For once, Lakers Media Day didn’t feel like damage control. No coaching hot seat. No “trade everybody” chatter. No chaos about roster overhauls. Instead, the vibe was calm, confident, and focused — a clean reset button in L.A.

JJ Redick set the tone with a brand-new extension and talk of “standards.” LeBron James admitted the finish line is “sooner than later,” while making it clear the process still fuels him. Luka Dončić promised better conditioning and real defensive effort as he enters his first full season with the Lakers.

Ricky and Kwame break down how different this Media Day felt, what it means for the Lakers’ identity in Year 2, and how the rest of the league set their tone. Plus — the guys play a round of “Who He Play For” with the latest camp signings and roster shakeups.

🌍 Luka Dončić’s EuroBasket Run — Luka is dominating overseas and firing up Slovenia. Will his summer reps sharpen his game for Lakers camp, or does it raise new questions for the season ahead?

Between writing in People’s Daily, leading youth clinics, and dropping the new Nike LeBron XXIII “Forever King” sneaker collection, is this a farewell lap—or the boldest branding play yet?
