Do you want to make a big change, but aren't sure why you haven't been able to break a habit yet? In today's episode of Quick Fix Friday, I'll talk about three roadblocks that are keeping you from making big changes in your life.
In episode 152, I talked to my friend, Jolene Park about how she stopped drinking in her forties for good. As I listened to her talk about how she was able to do this I realized that her approach could be used to overcome almost any kind of habit.

In episode 152 I spoke with Jolene Park who stopped drinking alcohol but it wasn't for the reasons you might think!
In fact, it was a very anti-climatic story. She never hit rock bottom, became bankrupt or had a tragic accident that made her wake up and realize that she needed to stop drinking. But instead over time, she found that she had this pattern of behavior with alcohol that she didn't find beneficial in her life. So she decided that it was time to break the pattern and quit drinking completely.
And that could have been the end of the story but after about a year she started to talk to people about what she did and why. She wanted to start helping more people who felt like she did, so she started to be interviewed on podcasts and even did a TedTalk and shifted her business to focus on how to help people who identified with this gray area drinking pattern. And her business has grown from there.

Jolene Park made the decision to stop drinking in 2014, without any dramatic rock bottom or dark story. As a nutritionist and wellness advocate, she had previously facilitated wellness challenges where she temporarily stopped drinking. However, she often found herself going back to drinking, believing that she could be a social drinker and have a glass of wine with friends. This back-and-forth cycle continued for years, with Jolene frequently consuming entire bottles of wine alone and feeling terrible the next day.
At the age of 43, she realized that she didn't want to continue this pattern and decided to quit drinking for good. Drawing on her knowledge of functional nutrition and wellness, Jolene focused on regulating her blood sugar and nervous system to support her decision. Around a year into her sobriety, she began speaking about her experience on podcasts and even landed a TedTalk, emphasizing the physiological aspects of alcohol addiction that are often overlooked. This led to a focus within her own business focusing on gray area drinking.
In this episode, we will dive deeper into what gray area drinking is and why Jolene has made it her mission to educate healthcare practitioners on the nuances of this diagnosis.
Join me as we talk about:
[00:00] Introductions
[03:01] What prompted Jolene to shift her business to focus on gray area drinking?
[08:13] What is gray area drinking? How do you know if you fall into this category of drinkers?
[09:46] Is there actually a number of alcoholic drinks that is considered "safe"?
[13:56] What impact did having a TedTalk have on Joelen's business and her mission to spread the word about gray area drinking?
[18:05] This is why Jolene is focused on educating health practitioners on the importance of not ignoring conversations patients want to have about their drinking habits.
[26:24] Jolene shares his most inspiring quote

Would you like to find a good mentor to help you get to the next stage, either in your business or in your life? In episode 149, I talked to Kwadwo, who found a great mentor. Getting mentoring has made the biggest impact on my business because it's great to have a sounding board. It's great to have a space where you can grow and express your, frustrations, but then also it's great to have this accountability. And today I wanted to share with you different types of mentor relationships that you could engage with that will get you to that next level.

I had the pleasure of interviewing the incredible Kwadwo. We dove deep into his journey as an entrepreneur and discussed three key pillars that helped him navigate through tough times in his business.
Takeaway 1: Embrace a Spiritual Practice. Find solace in a spiritual practice that resonates with you. Whether it's through a religious affiliation, meditation, or communing with nature, having a foundation to quiet your mind and release burdens can be immensely powerful.
Takeaway 2: Seek Guidance from a Coach or Mentor. Entrepreneurship can often feel like a lonely road. Connecting with a coach or mentor, like Kwadwo did with Rick Mulready, can make all the difference. They can serve as a sounding board, provide guidance, and steer you in the right direction when you're unsure which path to take.
Takeaway 3: Ensure Financial StabilityWhen embarking on your entrepreneurial journey, having a financial cushion is crucial. Build up savings to fall back on during challenging times or unexpected market shifts. Cashflow problems are a leading cause of business failure, so make sure you have the necessary resources to weather any storms.

In this episode, we have a captivating interview with Kwadwo Sampany-Kessie, a resilient entrepreneur who shares his inspiring journey of making challenging decisions, overcoming setbacks, and finding success. We delve into the dramatic shift caused by the pandemic, which led to the closure of his thriving Chinese business and a period of reinvention. Kwadwo candidly discusses the pressures of family expectations and the importance of financial stability in entrepreneurial life. Kwadwo shares his journey of faith, seeking guidance through prayer and meditation, and finding support from loved ones and mentors like Rick Mulready. Get ready to be inspired by Kwadwo's resilience and unwavering determination on their late-start entrepreneurship journey.
Kwadwo – sounds like [QUĀY.jo] – is a Facebook ads strategist for established online course creators and coaches. But unlike most ad managers, in addition to bringing in quality leads, he specializes in fixing funnels and giving business strategy so his clients can work less, make more, and enjoy the life they were meant to live.
Join me as we talk about:
[00:00] Introductions
[02:35] Kwadwo tells us about teaching English in China before he was inspired to start his first online business teaching Chinese. Then a family vacation to Mexico right before the pandemic started a series of events that ultimately led to Kwadwo shutting down his business and having to start all over again.
[08:31] Kwadwo tells us what it was like to have to start all over again after shuttering his business - how applying for a job wasn't getting anywhere until he applied to be a coach for Rich Mulready.
[12:25] Andrea and Kwadwo discuss the financial pressure, challenges, and risks that come with being an entrepreneur. Especially when it you believe you are at a point where you can bring on staff only to hit a dip in sales.
[16:58] One of the things that helped Kwadwo get through all of these changes was because of the support of his in-laws and his wife, but especially from his business mentor Rick Mulready. He shares with us how powerful receiving that kind of support can be and how its the inspiration behind the episodes on his podcast.
[21:13] Kwadwo shares how his faith was one of the key pieces that helped him move forward to find the success and opportunities that he's seeing today (not that it was easy to hand over that amount of faith when times were tough).
[26:57] Andrea and Kwadwo share stories about how they got into marketing (and its not getting a degree)
[29:44] We swap out some book recommendations and Kwadwo shares his most inspiring quote

Is your niche tight enough? That's the top takeaway I got from Sarah Scott in episode 146. Sarah took her struggling marketing business and decided to only serve people who had podcasts by assisting with podcast editing and show notes and all of that but she also takes it a step further by using their episodes to help them develop their social media presence and their content. And by doing that, she was able to find more success because she's now able to target her market really well. And able to explain what she does and sell her services with a different enthusiasm than she had before.
Another thing that Sarah brought up that we have seen time and time again on this podcast is to not be afraid to dive in and learn something new. When we started working together Sarah was my marketing assistant and neither of us had done podcasting before, but she dove in and figured it out and now is bringing the best practices to me.
