  • 144: Have a Curious Mind - Top Takeaways from Phyllis Khare

What I don't think Phyllis really dove into our interview as much as I know to be true is that she is one of the most curious people out there.

She loves to learn. She is so good at researching, learning, and distilling ideas into some of the best strategies and tools to promote and market a business online. The fact that she has written two Dummies books is proof that she loves to do research. She's really good at writing and distilling down these strategies into a step-by-step format and so that is the big takeaway for me is just really be curious, do your research and learn because like Phyllis,

I think that being curious and making that commitment to learning is really what it takes to start something new and build a business and have that confidence in the business that you are building because you have looked at the different strategies and the different options out there.

  • 141: Stories Make a Big Impact - Top Takeaways from David Otey

Tell a story to make a bigger impact. That's my number one takeaway from my interview with David Otey, who went from engineer to master storyteller, speaker, and author.

We are hardwired to remember stories better. And I think that is the message that I need to learn over and over. Try and wrap your messages into a story. See how you can illustrate your point with a story, whether it's in your sales messages or in your training.

And the other thing I loved about David's episode was the way he went from one career to a different career. And I think he really described how it wasn't quite perfect. Obviously, I think none of it is, but there's always a messy middle time where maybe you aren't getting it quite exactly right. Maybe you're trying something new and it isn't landing. If we are trying some new things and it seems to be like we're swimming upstream or not getting where we need to go. It's possibly just needing a little bit of tweaking.

  • 139: Essential Roles for a Small Film Production - Quick Fix Friday

Now I'm no expert in movies or making films by any means. I have been in a couple of movies and some student films and I've taken acting and made some short little films through that as well, but I am fascinated with the whole idea of making a movie and bringing something to life with a skeleton crew and a low budget because now more than ever, movies are able to be made and indie films have sometimes had really low budgets.

Let's talk about some of the roles you might need to think about if you are thinking about making a movie.

  • 135: Serve Your Own Niche - Top Takeaways from Mira Canion

Do you want to start your own business? Then think about how you can serve your own niche. That's what Mira Canion did when she discovered that she wanted a different kind of Spanish reader for her students.

You can find a great business opportunity if you can identify a hole in the niche that you are currently working in or you see that that niche is underserved in a certain way. The benefits to building a business in a niche you are already working in is that you have a calling to work there and the experience to know how to navigate it.  You also have credibility because people really trust you because you know that market, you know what they need, what the kind of support they need in that service or in that product that you're providing and you can really serve that market well.

So if you really want to start your own business, I would suggest taking a look at your own niche, seeing where the holes are, seeing where your unique gifts are and seeing where the curiosity really pulls you. And can you create that on the side while you have the security of that full-time income to support you until you are ready to go full-time in your business.

About Late Starters Club

From the publisher's feed

Are you looking to start something new in your 40’s, 50’s or beyond but are scared to start? I never want to hear people say: “Oh it’s too late to make a change” or “I wanted to do that when I was younger, but it’s too late now.” WHY??? Why are 20 and 30-year-olds the only people who are allowed to start something new?
