  • 102: LDL's Sexual Debut
Please join this week's guest hosts, Jules Hannaford and Sara Tang. Jules produces two podcasts, "Hong Kong Confidential," which she hosts, and "Fool Me Twice," the award-winning, true-crime podcast based on her memoir by the same name. Sara is an educator, writer, sexologist, sex coach and creator of the "Better in Bed" podcast. Both of these amazing women live in Hong Kong, and we're super excited to have them discuss the intersection of sex and religion (among other things) on today's show, so please give them a warm LDL welcome!

You can follow Sara at www.sarasense.com or on Instagram @hellosarasense.

  • 101: Brother Joe, Just Say No
Was Joseph Smith into drugs?? And did he drug his congregation??? We're gonna "high" to Kolob in today's episode that features guest hosts, Bryce Blankenagel, of the Naked Mormonism podcast, and our favorite therapist, Kimberly Anderson. Bryce presents strong evidence for the alleged use of psychedelics in the early Mormon church. And be advised, the LDL podcast and our guests in no way advocate for illegal drug use of any kind. Don't try this at home kids.

    For further study:
Mormonism Unveiled by Eber D. Howe
Studies of the Book of Mormon by B.H. Roberts
"The Higher Powers of Man" by Frederick M Smith (FUMPOTD inspiration)

  • 99: Conversion Therapy Survivor Nathan Winterton
Trigger Warning: in this episode we discuss delicate themes such as conversion therapy, anorexia and suicidal ideation. If these topics are triggering for you, feel free to pause the recording, listen in a supportive environment or skip this one. In the fall of 2019, Nathan Winterton pulled over to the side of the road because they couldn't stop the flow of tears over the news that the LDS church essentially defended the practice of conversion therapy by attempting to prevent the passing of a Utah state law that would make it illegal. That day, Nathan took a selfie that went viral on social media. A year later, they agreed to come on our podcast and talk about it. We feel honored that Nathan so openly shared their experience with all of us. It's an extraordinary story.

  • 98: If Jesus Had Been to Therapy
Fair warning: this week we get a bit sacrilegious and come to the conclusion that 2,000 years may not actually be enough time to process trauma, so you take your time Jesus. Annnnnd...we're back in the temple for the LAST TIME!! Bye bye LDS temple. Try not to let the door hit ya where HF split ya! We also, want to give a special thank you to Pirate God for their contribution to the temple episodes. Pirate God is a non-binary being and requests they/them pronouns. They thank you.

You have been missed. Oh, and we're back in the temple briefly. Thankfully, we're almost out of there. Enjoy!

  • 95: Mary & Diana on Family: When Less is More
This week Diana keeps "Shelly's seat warm" and picks up the guest hosting slot. I stump her on a FUMPOTD courtesy of Bryce Blankenagel of the Naked Mormonism podcast. She and I also discuss family relationships and boundary setting, as well as attempts to fill the "bottomless well" of affirmation needs. It's a good one, so please give a listen on your favorite podcast app.

  • 94: So Long Lucifer
Sooo....Shelly lied. We are actually back in the temple today for Lucifer's farewell speech. It's a classic. Shelly also dons a hideous temple outfit sent in by a listener (robe, apron, sash, veil). We also read an inspiring letter, and hear how some more LDL'ers got into our discussion group on Facebook.

  • 93: Lucifer's New Name
We are STILL in the stupid temple. Seriously so dumb. Pirate God pays us a visit there...in fact, you may actually find yourself thinking, "will someone please make Pirate God shut up???" We also discover what more folks said to "get into the group," and this episode wouldn't be complete without another triggering entry from Shelly's creepy 1990's journal. Join us!
