  • S2 Ep7: Dan Gillespie Sells
On the 7th episode of Lavender Language we're speaking with singer/songwriter, Dan Gillespie Sells.

Dan fronted English pop rock band The Feeling and has since switched his focus to the West End. In 2017, Everybody's Talking About Jamie premiered at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield before transferring to the West End later that year at the Apollo Theatre.
Having recorded this interview with Dan in the Spring of 2019, we thought it'd be a good idea to have a quick catch up in 2020 and see what he's up to. The follow up interview was done via Zoom, so please forgive the quality!

We talk over the phone and discuss his morning routine, Fried Green Tomatoes, how he discovered the piano, growing up on a farm, his days in community college, a possibly inappropriate but sweet relationship with his high school homeschooling teacher, discovering AA and then experiencing his second (which led to meeting his partner Mike), what it's like being a sober touring musician, his university experience, finding a community online and off, moving to Los Angeles, his addiction to his iPhone, staying relevant in the music industry, Perfume Genius' success and maintaining it, what Alan would say to his younger self, being a cool gay teenager and how neither of us can relate, and how certain traumas from your youth don't always make you a stronger person.

  • S1 Ep4: Paul Kindersley
In the fourth episode of Lavender Language, we sit with performance artist Paul Kindersley. Based in South London, Paul's work plays with the concepts of reality, truth and fiction while referencing the esoteric and mainstream all with a wink.

We talk about the beginnings of his career, how being hard to label has its benefits, the importance of story telling, how defining words like queer and art can be problematic, Janet Jackson, ASMR, his film 'The Image' for Charleston House's exhibition Orlando at the Present Time, the speed at which his process takes, what colors of acrylic paint will poison you if painted on your skin, how much burning time a peanut gives off and what being queer means to him, his process and his work.

  • S1 Ep3: Wilfrid Wood
In the third episode of Lavender Language, Adriann Ramirez talks to London based portrait artist and sculptor, Wilfrid Wood. His cheeky use of colour and his unique sense of humour translates into his work as a sculptor, but what really shines through is the specificity in how he portrays his subjects, famous or not. We sit in his home and chat about the unlearning of a lifetime of growing up with an art background, realising you may or may not know it all at age 18, what drives him to continue his practice, the importance of adaptability and malleability in an artist's sense of self and what it can truly take to be the artist one strives to be.

We sit with John in his home and chat about the music he listens to when he's working, how his home environment impacts on his work, working in a studio space with other artists, successes and "failures", sitting in the discomfort of a freelance creative's life and how social media impacts on an artist's impact.
