My friends, Colton Herta’s 19th in Formula 2 and he’s still in contention to replace Grand Prix winner Valtteri Bottas...are they serious? With Checo's future secured through 2029 announced at the Mexico City Grand Prix, Cadillac’s second seat has a potential new purpose. One which may not need experience...but this first year for the new American F1 team hasn't been as simple as they would like. Are they in a position to make driver changes?

There's also other candidates who might be ready in time for 2028. Could committing to Herta in 2027 be too hasty?

Bridgestone is reportedly chasing an F1 return with Michelin also exploring its options; all alongside the return of F1 V8s. Lovely stuff! Except the reported tyre opportunity from 2029 is for one exclusive supplier, while those V8s keep a turbo and hybrid system. So how much old-school F1 are you actually getting? The FIA is, as usual these days, NOT QUITE giving us the full picture. Why?

These are 2026's F1 United States GP winners and losers. Antonelli dominated Austin while Russell collapsed again...and the two Red Bulls tripped over themselves.

George Russell had six good laps in Austin while Kimi Antonelli put together another win. As that went down, Max Verstappen salvaged a podium while Ferrari collected 30 points and McLaren left with more questions about its pace. We've also got Bearman's costly Gasly collision as well as Lawson's alarm that wouldn't stop complaining.

Who else won, lost or was just plain meh around Austin?

Three weeks ago, McLaren were 76 points ahead of Red Bull...it's now seven. Oh my. McLaren’s fight for third in the F1 constructors’ championship suddenly carries an additional $10 million price tag...coupled with the obvious loss of P1 from 2025. Zak Brown’s landed Mastercard, sure, but Andrea Stella still needs to find three tenths while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri wrestle the car which they find KNACKERING. But the MCL40? It won't answer all their prayers.
