Have you ever received an inheritance? Wish you had? Well, those who follow Christ have received an inheritance that pales in comparison to any of the stuff of earth. It includes God’s provision for today and reassuring hope for tomorrow.

At Calvary, Christ laid down His life as the perfect Lamb of God. His sacrifice made a way for us outsiders to finally come home. On that day flanked by two thieves, Jesus’ love was displayed. The one on the left was at war with God and men; he cursed and mocked Jesus. But the one on the right recognized his great need and humbled himself before the Lord. Regardless of our past, will we fight against God or will we surrender?

She didn’t fit in anywhere; she was an outsider. She had a bad reputation. The religious folks of her day looked down on her as an unclean sinner, a second-class citizen with no rights in a man’s world. What right did she have to even be near Jesus? Yet, her act of faith and love toward the One who first loved her is spoken of to this day. Jesus welcomed her with arms of love just as He longs to welcome each of us.

“Traitor!” “Thief!” “Parasite!” These were the words shouted at this outsider. A little man with something to prove, he pursued a life of wealth and had succeeded. But, at what cost? In his loneliness he longed for peace and found it with the glimpse of a Savior who called to him. Could it be that we are keeping ourselves on the fringes?

Being an outsider is never easy. Sometimes the only comfort comes from finding other outsiders like ourselves. We are all searching for an identity.

Meet the untouchables: lepers, (lower case) cut off from their families and communities and exiled in their own land. Trapped in their pain, poverty, and despair, they lived without hope of ever finding a cure until the Great Physician arrived. Have you ever felt untouchable?
