Happy Last Week of Class! This episode of the LeaderPod focuses on students who are about to embark on their next leadership journey of graduation! Today, we have one of my amazing Mentors, Jonathan McElderry with us. Jonathan truly exemplifies leadership success post graduation and actively living this.

McElderry’s current role as Dean of Student Inclusive Excellence is just one of the many ways his career illustrates his dedication to fostering inclusive campus environments. Even before joining Elon, he championed student success, diversity and professional development, serving as the assistant Dean of Students and Executive Director of the Intercultural Center at Wake Forest University and as director of the Black Culture Center at the University of Missouri.

It's Native American Heritage Month! We will be touching on the history of Indigenous People and current leadership opportunities that some students have taken advantage of. We're joined today by Sakura Kawakami, a senior on the Golf team, originally from New Zealand. She is very involved on campus and attended the AISES Conference which stands for Advancing Indigenous People in STEM. Tune in for her insights!

In this week’s episode we are honoring National Mentoring Day that is celebrated on October 27th by chatting with Kenny Brown Jr., Manny Campos, and Carlos Gomez Lopez! Mentoring is a valuable leadership experience because you are able to  support someone through some sort of period of change. Mentors are so impactful in our lives, so make sure to thank your mentors for their support!

October is LGBTQIA + History Month and this week we are talking about leaders from LGBTQIA+ history! We have a returning guest to the podcast, Kate Campbell who is the graduate apprentice for the Gender and LGBTQIA+ Center here at Elon. We also have Lynn who is currently interning at the Gender and LGBTQIA+ and a current grad student at UNCG. Tune in for their insights!

In this week's episode of the Leaderpod we are talking to Betsy Polk Joseph, Boaz Avraham-Katzand, and Benji Stern about allyship through the High (HOLI)days for Judaism.  

The high holidays are the holiest days of the year for people who follow Judaism including Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur. The 10-day period between these two holidays, is when the deep reflection occurs. It takes a leader to be willing to engage this process, and it takes a leader to support others through this process. Leadership needs to come from both sides of the coin.

Did you know September 18 is International National Equal Pay Day? The United Nations established International Equal Pay Day in 2020 to recognize the international goal of equal pay for work of equal value.
