  • 193: Ask Denis: Slow Down to Go Faster

As leaders, we’re always ‘on.’ The world around us is changing fast and we are changing with it. The issue is, sometimes we can keep spinning our wheels and moving fast, without really achieving anything in the long run. If the goal is to achieve more and move fast, you may be surprised that the solution is to first slow down! In this episode, I’m going to break down 5 steps that will help you slow down in order to go faster.

    On this episode:

    • Life and leadership are on a fast moving track. As leaders it may be time to slow down a bit mentally and physically in order to achieve more in the long run. I’ll dive into five steps that I believe will help you apply this to your life.
    • When you do these five things you’ll notice a couple of effects. For example: you’ll notice that you’ll understand more that’s going around you and you’ll even be able to take more control over your situation.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Having a lot going on doesn’t mean your getting much done
    • Just stop
    • Step back - get out of the weeds
    • The end picture/goal
    • Start planning and lining things up
    • Press the gas - Execute on the plan
    • The effects of going through these steps

  • 187: Ask Denis: Working Through Change and Resilience

Over my years in leadership I’ve learned that things like change and resilience are easy to talk about but much, much harder to do. It can be quite daunting to see things go outside of our control, but those are the things we don’t need to focus on. So in this episode, let’s take a deeper look at the things we CAN control and how we can use them to navigate difficult or unexpected situations. Tune in and learn more about working through change and resilience.

    On this episode:

    • Change is not easy no matter how much people talk about it. At the end of the day you can’t control the things you can’t control. But you CAN control your attitude, your mindset, and where you’re going next.
    • What is resilience really? How do you do it well? I give the example of the journey I went through with my voice to draw a picture around how my attitude and mindset set the foundation for the resilience I would need to get through it. With that, I’ll give you 3 things to do to build up resilience in difficult situations.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Change and resilience is hard to do
    • Learn to control your attitude and where you’re going next
    • The definition of resilience
    • Remember to breathe
    • Thinking through things
    • Ask for help!

    Tweetable Quotes:

“Many people talk about change, many people talk about resilience, not many do it very well.” - Denis Gianoutsos

“If you could take out a small amount of time per week to think and start thinking through things, just imagine what you could achieve.” - Denis Gianoutsos

“For someone to be resilient, it’s because they have knowledge.” - Denis Gianoutsos
