  • 175: Ask Denis: 5 Ways to Stay Focussed on Success

Along the leadership journey, it can get quite hard to stay focussed. It happens to the best of us; whether it’s feeling demotivated or experiencing setbacks we all need a bit of a boost. From how we make goals and face challenges, to what you do for yourself physically, I believe that this episode will encourage and uplift you to get back, or stay on track. So here are 5 ways to stay motivated and focussed on your success.

    On this episode:

    • We all face a lack of focus on motivation - here’s a boost. Let’s look at 5 ways to get back on track and propel you forward. It starts at how you set and look at your goals, you don’t want to ‘spin too many plates.’ We’ll also take a look at the value of setting up a support network of people who can remind you of those goals.
    • Remember that the game is not just mental, you need to look after yourself physically. There are key things you can do that will reset your stress. We need to be kinder to ourselves, and that includes rewarding ourselves for a job well done. Go on, you deserve it! And don’t forget to do the same for your team

    Key Takeaways:

    • Set goals and become a goal achiever
    • Take notes and write down what’s on your mind
    • Break down the goals into smaller pieces
    • Engage with a support network
    • Exercise; get match fit
    • Reward yourself

    Tweetable Quotes:

“If you take all these elements here and you combine and connect them with motivation… You’re going to feel more confident, and if you’re feeling more confident, you’re going to go out and do more things.” - Denis Gianoutsos

“Keep it simple... If we keep things simple, stay focussed, and stay consistent - it’ll be amazing what you can achieve.” - Denis Gianoutsos

  • 172: Ask Denis: The Small Things Have Big Impact

A couple of episodes ago we took a look at our mid-year review, well now we’re back out on the field playing the game. How’s it going? Maybe you can only do some small things at the moment. I’m here to tell you, that’s exactly where you’re supposed to be, because small things have a big impact. How you show up makes a difference, and how you show up as a leader, what you do and say, affects the team around you. Let’s take some time to look at some small things we can do consistently that can impact our teams and organizations in a big way.

    • Small things have a big impact. “If you think you’re too small to have an impact try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.” Even small encouragements can go a long way. You as a leader affect the people around you with the smallest things you say or do.
    • There are things you can do consistently that can truly impact your organization. If you’re consistent in the positive things you do, you may not see change straight away, but 30 days or a year down the line you will see change.

    Key Takeaways:

    • How small things can have a big impact
    • You as a leader affect the people around you
    • There are small, consistent things you can do to affect change
    • The impact of just taking a breath
    • The small things you do in the beginning will determine the end game
    • Take a deep look at the small things you do

    Tweetable Quotes:

“How you show up makes a difference… You as a leader, what you say and what you do, and how you come across to people, actually DOES have a lot of sway, impact and so forth on people.” - Denis Gianoutsos

  • 169: Ask Denis: Building Your Legacy Through Custodian Leadership

Have you ever met someone who draws their value from a position or title? The thing is, I know and you know that titles don’t make the leader, actions do. No one owns a single position, in truth, we are custodians of that position. As such, it is our responsibility to leave positions in better condition than we received them. In this episode, I’m going to break down what this means for us, and how custodian leadership can help build and leave your legacy.

    On this episode:

    • Titles should not be what you use to draw value from. We don’t own titles, we are custodians of them. This is someone who has the responsibility of taking care or protecting something. How you nurture, protect, and excel at a role, will dictate your legacy.
    • What are you doing today that will leave your legacy 10, 20 years ahead? How to build the legacy of the organisation: Listen in for the 3 things that will help you be the best custodian you can be.

    Key Takeaways:

    • We are custodians of a role not owners
    • The responsibilities of custodians
    • Leaving a role or organization better than you found it
    • 3 things you need to do to leave a legacy in a role
    • What to do if you’re not the right person for a position
    • Moving an organisation forward
    • Remember to share this episode with 3 people

    Tweetable Quotes:

“What kind of custodian do you want to be known as in the future…? That organisation can move forward with or without you.” - Denis Gianoutsos
