  • Seven Levels Of Energy (Leading In Life #11)

In this episode, Tammy and Tamara discuss the two different types of energy, anabolic and catabolic. Anabolic energy is constructive and catabolic energy is destructive. They also explore the 7 Levels of Energy structure developed by Bruce D. Schneider from iPec and the impact it has on both individuals and organizations.

     Catabolic Levels:
    Level 1 – Victim thinking
    Level 2 – Conflict
     Anabolic Levels:
    Level 3 – Responsibility
    Level 4 – Concern
    Level 5 – Reconciliation
    Level 6 – Synthesis
    Level 7 – Non-Judgement
Individuals and organizations can experience each of these levels sometimes on a daily basis. The power is becoming aware of our own energy level and how it is limiting or moving us forward to purposeful actions to reach our goals.
How is your energy serving you now?

  • Purpose in Life (Leading In Life #10)
    http://traffic.libsyn.com/remarkablechatter/lil_10.mp3
Mark Twain said there are two great moments in life: the day you are born and the day you find out why. In this episode, we discuss discovering our purpose in life. Once we discover the purpose, it guides everything we do in all aspects of our lives.
Why is there so much stress? In a recent blog post called “What Is My Purpose?”, Tamara shares a possibility of why people experience so much stress. Is self-care one reason? We’ve grown up to put others first and often times forget to take care of ourselves. It is difficult to take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves and lead our life with passion and purpose.
    1) Does the project or task align with your values?
    2) How committed are you? Commitment level is directly related to your engagement level.
Core energy coaching is about playing the game full out. As we play the game of life, be thinking about the purpose and passion of our life. How do our actions align with our values and purpose in life?
How are you showing up? What is your passion and purpose in life? You do have a choice. If your passion and purpose isn’t in alignment with what you are currently doing, you have a choice to act!

  • Energy that is Draining (Leading In Life #9)
    http://traffic.libsyn.com/remarkablechatter/lil_9.mp3

In this episode, Tammy and Tamara discuss a blog post written by Seth Godin called,  The Care and Feeding (and Shunning) of Vampires. We challenge our listeners to read the blog post and reflect on the vampires in your life and how you respond to them.
The more we can inspire others to grow (not change), the better. Don’t encourage those who feed on other’s failures. Keep your energy high regardless of the energy around you! It isn’t about proving others wrong. It is about raising your consciousness and choosing how you play the game of life.
We have the responsibility to align our values and actions to the organizational goals. Our individual preferences do not trump the organizational needs.
In Seth’s post, he mentions that there are people who find everything wrong with something and so we challenge you to look for the good. The good in people, in yourself, and in your circumstances.

  • The Lens of Opportunity (Leading In Life #8)
    http://traffic.libsyn.com/remarkablechatter/lil_8.mp3

“Everything is either an opportunity to learn and grow or an obstacle that keeps you stuck. You get to choose.”  by Positive Thoughts.
What is your definition of success and failure? Seeing things as opportunities instead of obstacles can help us redefine the value of failure. Right now in education, we are hearing that we have a ton of challenges, obstacles, and barriers. How do we help educators see these as opportunities?

    * Become aware of the lens you are seeing the situation.
    * Once aware of the perspective, choose to respond instead of react.
    * Allow the ego to get out of the way.
    * Look at what is influencing the perspective that holds you back from attaining goals,  seeing everything as an opportunity.
    * As yourself why you are labeling the situation as bad or a challenge?

In our world today, we tend to look through the lens of conflict. Almost every news article or report has to do with conflict.
Ask yourself three questions if you are sensing conflict or frustration :
    1) Are you allowing your ego to get in the way?
    2) Are you making an assumption about the circumstance?
    3) What emotion are you feeling and why?
The power of choice is amazing. We have complete control of how we choose to see the world and respond!
Listen to this episode to learn more about ways to see possibilities and opportunities. Reflect on what might be holding you back or limiting you from reaching your fullest potential.

  • Be Your Authentic Self (Leading In Life #7)
    http://traffic.libsyn.com/remarkablechatter/lil_7.mp3

In this episode, we discuss the Inner Self. Knowing that you can’t change circumstances or others, we do have the power to grow, reflect and learn.  “Create a life that feels good on the inside, not one that looks good on the outside.” (behappy.me)
Get the masks off. It isn’t about pleasing others or pretending to be someone you are not. Be your authentic self and be proud. Everyone has the power to do something about the areas of their life they are not happy with. It is up to you to create the life you desire.  Be yourself. Be confident with who you are.
We are in control of our own emotions, not others. Don’t allow others to control your emotions. It is a choice we have within. How do you respond? Emotions impact our actions and we can be in control of our emotions.  If we choose to be frustrated, it will have an impact on everything. If we choose to see things as opportunities instead of barriers, then it will empower us.
It isn’t a Pollyanna attitude, it is about figuring out what the motivation is behind your actions. Are you moving forward out of anger or because you see possibilities?  How do you approach non-preferred tasks? 1) Have to 2) Get to 3) Just get it done.

  • Social Influences (Leading In Life #6)
In this episode, Tammy and Tamara discuss social relationships and the impact they have on your energy and how you show up in life. We were born to be loved and when you don’t feel loved or valued, you can tend to put up defenses to cover up insecurities.  These defenses can include gossiping and treating others poorly.
Being around like-minded people is a way to keep your energy up so that you can show up fully in life. Many have a value of connectedness and Tamara shares her new rule that has helped her stay anabolic and confident about who she is…”Accept natural selection.” Even though connectedness is an important value, don’t allow others to define your value.
How do you interact with people who are not like-minded or around people who seem to “drain” you?
    1) Release judgment.
    2) Accept them for who they are.
    3) Appreciate their life journey.
    4) Show up as your authentic self.
    5) Love, care, and have compassion for others.
    6) Have positive self-talk.
Beautiful things can happen when you release the negative things in your life.
“Tell the negative committee that meets inside your head to sit down and shut up.” ~ Ann Bradford.
In education and our world we have a competitive culture.  In our service center we have a comparative culture. Sometimes this can cause some social interactions that impact the energy of the team. Often times, the comparative culture begins with the inner critic, telling ourselves we aren’t good enough.
It is inner work that will help us have a more fulfilling and satisfying life. Be your authentic self!  Continue the journey of life!

  • How the Environment Impacts Your Energy (Leading In Life #5)
    http://traffic.libsyn.com/remarkablechatter/lil_5.mp3

In this episode, Tamara and Tammy discuss how the environment impacts energy and engagement in life. Knowing that our energy impacts us and those around us, how are you showing up when the environment isn’t conducive to your needs or different than what you expected? It might be noise, clutter, inadequate technology, and/or temperature that can impact our energy and the energy of our students. How do we become aware of when it impacts our energy to where it holds us back? The key is to determine what action needs to be taken so the environment can support action. Hey, some people choose to shove papers in a drawer so it is out of site and it doesn’t impact their energy and engagement at work (not mentioning any names…Cody Heitschmidt)!  The power lies in the choice of how we allow the environment to impact our energy and what we choose to do about it!
If environment is a major influencer on your energy, Tammy suggests taking a deep breath, pause, and ask yourself, “Is this really important to me?”
Have high awareness of your emotions because it impacts your actions, which impacts your interactions with students.

  • 15 Things You Should Give Up to Be Happy (Leading in Life #4)
    http://traffic.libsyn.com/remarkablechatter/lil4.mp3

This episode of Leading in Life Tamara and Tammy discuss the 15 Things You Should Give Up to Be Happy by Luminita Saviuc. These connect well with the foundational principles and practices of iPEC’s Core Energy Coaching and the Seven Levels of Energy.
Becoming aware of which items in this list impact our energy in a negative way is powerful. During this podcast, the hosts discuss strategies to increase your anabolic energy.  A few strategies that are discussed include:

    * Become aware of when you are needing control and determining why the need is present.
    * Give up labels (good/bad and right/wrong) by decreasing judgment of yourself and others.
    * Use positive self-talk.
    * Respect and value the different lenses people see the world through.
    * Give up the need to do it the way you’ve always done it or are comfortable with.
    * Lessen your fear of failure, approval, and rejection. Fears can cause us to go into inaction.
    * Celebrate failure in schools. Change the definition of failure so that there isn’t a bad connotation with the word.

Out of these 15 items, which ones do you struggle with and why?  What are you willing to do about it?
