Leading the Way with Haley Moss [IEP 152]

Listen Later

We’re excited to bring you this conversation with Haley Moss! Haley is a South Florida native who was diagnosed with autism at age three. She is now an attorney who is open about her journey, inspiring hope for other autistic people and their families and friends.

Haley is a leader on disability inclusion, autism, and neurodiversity in the workplace, employment policy, accessibility, and lawyers with disabilities.

She is the author of two books: “Middle School: The Stuff Nobody Tells You About” and “A Freshman Survival Guide for College Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders: The Stuff Nobody Tells You About.

We know that you're going to enjoy this conversation just as much as we did!

Show Highlights:

  • Haley addresses societal and cultural perceptions around autism.
  • Haley shares the challenges she’s had working as an autistic attorney.
  • Don’t make assumptions; ask!
  • Policy and legislation for disability rights didn’t begin until the 1970s, with an overhaul in the 90s, and slightly more happening with the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA).
  • Unemployment rates for the autistic population are massive, and so is the salary disparity among professionals with disabilities.
  • The only limit that should be set is healthy boundaries between you and your child.
  • Now does not mean never! Don’t get hung up so much on milestones.
