    Sahih al-Bukhari – The Book of Tawheed – Lesson 46 (10/03/18)
Allah's Apostle said, "Allah's Hand is full, and (its fullness) is not affected by the continuous spending, day and night." He also said, "Do you see what He has spent since He created the Heavens and the Earth? Yet all that has not decreased what is in His Hand." He also said, "His Throne is over the water and in His other Hand is the balance (of Justice) and He raises and lowers (whomever He will)." (See Hadith No. 206, Vol. 6)
Allah's Apostle said, "On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will grasp the whole Earth by His Hand, and all the Heavens in His right, and then He will say, 'I am the King." Abu Huraira said, "Allah's Apostle said," Allah will grasp the Earth...' "
A Jew came to the Prophet and said, "O Muhammad! Allah will hold the heavens on a Finger, and the mountains on a Finger, and the trees on a Finger, and all the creation on a Finger, and then He will say, 'I am the King.' " On that Allah's Apostle smiled till his premolar teeth became visible, and then recited:-- 'No just estimate have they made of Allah such as due to him....(39.67) 'Abdullah added: Allah's Apostle smiled (at the Jew's statement) expressing his wonder and believe in what was said.

  • 19 - Tafsir - Surah Al Qariah | Abu Humayd Saalim | Manchester
This lesson Ustaadh Abu Humayd goes through Surah Al-Qari’ah. Al Qari’ah is from the names of the day of judgment. One of the reasons for this is that it brings terror and alarm to the hearts. This is what that day will do to the hearts. This Surah was revealed in Makkah.
This Surah comes after Surah Al-Adiyat
    The Calamity! (1)
    What is the Calamity? (2)
Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Calamity is! (3)
This question is put in this ayah due to the fact that the people do not know the severity of this day.
A day wherein mankind will be as thickly-scattered moths (4)
The example of the moth is placed here as the moth generally do not know the direction in which they travel, they travel towards the light. And this is the comparison to the state the people will be in on the day of judgment.
And the mountains will become as carded wool. (5)
Generally, we see that when wool is carded and teased it becomes light and travels with the wind with ease. Such will be the case for the mountains.
Then, as for him whose scales are heavy (with good works), (6)
The meaning here is the one whose good deeds outweigh their bad deeds.
He will live a pleasant life. (7)
He will live a pleasant life, meaning in Paradise.
But as for him whose scales are light, (8)
This ayah refers to the category of people whose bad deeds outweigh their good deeds. This includes the non-muslims and the muslims.
The bereft and Hungry One will be his mother, (9)
Meaning the place of rest and abode for this person will be a pit from the hell-fire.
Ah, what will convey unto thee what she is! - (10)
    Raging Fire. (11)
The fire of this earth is only a part of the fire of the hereafter. The fire of the hereafter is superior to this world by sixty-nine parts.
This is a clear reminder, as when we are burned, even by a small amount in this dunya, we are placed in severe pain. And we ask Allaah for refuge from the fire.
Question: When Allaah mentioned scales in ayah 6 of this surah, is it a single scale or is it plural?
Some of the people of knowledge, such as Shaykh Uthaymeen say it is one scale, and the only reason why the plural is used is due to the things that are weighed, and not the scale itself, e.g. the good deeds and the bad deeds that will be weighed.
To conclude, this Surah does not mention those people whose good deeds are equal to their bad deeds.
In Surah Al-A’raf Allaah mentions how the people of Jannah will enter Jannah and the people of hell-fire will enter the hell-fire and between them will be a barrier. There will be a’raf (a barrier) where there will be men who will recognise the people by their faces (those with white faces being of Paradise and those with black faces being of the hell-fire) and men whose good deeds were equal to their bad deeds; and so their good deeds prevented them from entering the hell-fire, and yet their bad deeds prevented their good deeds from entering paradise.
Due to Allaah’s mercy, they will enter Paradise, they are the last of those who will enter paradise, without ever entering Paradise.

  • 23 - Explanation of Fiqh | Abu Humayd Saalim | Manchester
    📕A Summary of Islamic Fiqh
We continue with the topic of Ghusl (ritual bath).
The way a complete ritual bath is taken is as follows:
    - Having the intention to to take a ritual bath (This is the first pillar of Ghusl)
    - Beginning with Tasmiyah (Saying Bismillah)
    - Washing one’s hands thrice
    - Washing one’s genital
    - Performing full ablution
    - Washing one’s head; pouring over the head thrice so that it thoroughly reaches one’s scalp
    - Pouring water over one’s whole body and rubbing with one’s hands, making sure that water reaches all parts of the body.
Ghusl has two pillars: 1) the intention
    2) to wash the whole of the body.
If these two are done, then the Ghusl is sufficed.
This lesson also recaps the pillars of wudhoo, and the sunnah acts of it.
The menstruating woman or the woman in a state of postnatal bleeding has to undo her hair braids or pigtails when taking a ritual bath. However, a woman in a state of janabah does not have to undo her hair braids to have a ritual bath, as it does not affect the validity of her ritual bathing in this case. This is because janabah is a frequent state, and undoing her hair braids every now and then might cause her difficulty. Still, it is obligatory for a woman in that state (of janabah) to make water reach her scalp.
For detailed discussions of all of this, listen to the audio. BaarakAllaahu Feekum.
