  • 26 - Book of Tawheed - Sahih al-Bukhari - Abu Muadh Taqweem | Manchester
    Sahih al-Bukhari – The Book of Tawheed – Lesson 26 (09/09/17)
Today’s lesson began with a new chapter:
Chapter of the saying of Allaah:
“And Allah warns you against Himself (His Punishment)” (Aale Imran V28) and His statement” “You know what is in my inner-self though I do not know what is in Yours”(Al Maa’idah V116).
    Benefits of the lesson include:
    • This chapter was placed following the previous chapter related to the “Dhaat” (Essence) of Allaah to show that the “Nafs” and the “Dhaat” are the same. This shows the great level of understanding of Imam Al Bukhari.
    • The differing levels of shirk (Major & Minor) and sin (Major & Minor) and their rulings. Some scholars mention that sins are a form of shirk. To find out the evidence for why they hold this, listen to next weeks lesson as this was assigned as Homework!
    Hadith 1 (in this chapter):
Narrated Abdullah (Ibn Mas’ood): “The Prophet said, "There is none having a greater sense of Ghira than Allah, and for that reason He has forbidden shameful deeds and sins (illegal sexual intercourse etc.) And there is none who likes to be praised more than Allah does."
    Benefits from this hadith:
    • The establishment of “Ghayra” (roughly translates to jealousy) for Allaah.
o From the effects of Ghayra, is anger. This hadith shows us the grave consequence of falling into Fawaahish (Shameful deeds and sins).
    • Allaah loves Praise for Him as He is Most befitting of praise.

  • All of my Nation Will Enter Paradise Except... - AbdulHakeem Mitchell | Manchester
The Prophet (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) said: “All of my Ummah will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” So it was asked: “And who would refuse, O Messenger of Allaah?” He said: “Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise and whoever disobeys me will enter the Fire (of Hell).”
Ahadith like this and those similar to it contain great benefit in the foundations of our deen. In order to practice this religion in a way that is correct, we must follow and adhere to its requirements. To know these requirements we have to look at the texts – the Qur’an and the Sunnah.
    Benefits from the Hadith:
Every individual who obeys the Messenger Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam and follows him will enter Jannah. There is no doubt regarding this because it a guarantee from Allaah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalah.
“And whosoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, then they will be in the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace, of the Prophets, the Siddiqun (those followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them, like Abu Bakr As-Siddiq), the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are!” (4:69)
Those who refuse and are disobedient are of 2 types:
    1. The Disbeliever – This person will never enter Jannah. His abode will be the Hellfire. His refusal is based on his disbelief.
    As Allaah says:
“And whosoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, and transgresses His limits, He will cast him into the Fire, to abide therein; and he shall have a disgraceful torment.” (4:14)
    2. The Believer in Allaah and His Messenger, but his desires overcome him, so he falls into the disobedience of Allaah, specifically the Major sins – This person is no doubt a sinful person, he has a portion of the disobedience of Allaah and his refusal is based on his desires. However, he does not make halal that which he does so falls under the threat of the Fire and their affair is under the Will of Allaah. If He wills, He will pardon him and not enter him into the Fire. And if He wills he will punish him due to his disobedience and will eventually exit the Fire by way of the intercession or by way of the Virtue or Mercy of Allaah.
The people of Jannah are of 3 types as mentioned in the ayah:
“Then We gave the Book the Quran) for inheritance to such of Our slaves whom We chose Then of them are some who wrong their own selves, and of them are some who follow a middle course, and of them are some who are, by Allah's Leave, foremost in good deeds. That (inheritance of the Quran), that is indeed a great grace.” (35:32)
    1. Those who wrong themselves – They have mixed their righteous actions with their evil deeds.
    2. Those who are upon the middle way – They are righteous people. Those who perform the obligations, avoid the forbidden affairs but they do not give great importance to the extra and voluntary deeds
    3. Those who are first and foremost in righteous actions – They are the greatest of the people. They are those who perform all of the obligations, they avoid the forbidden affairs, they perform the voluntary deeds and stay away from the ‘Makroohaat’ (The disliked affairs).
They are mentioned in Surat Al Fatir V32
Knowing these categories should be a means of encouragement to try and be from the third and greatest type.

  • The True Meaning of Jihad - Abu Ismail Saalik | Manchester
    What is Jihad?
To fight, to strive, to work hard, to face hardship and difficulty are all meanings of Jihad in the Arabic language.
In the shari’ah: “It is to offer that which one is able to within one’s abilities in order to attain that which is beloved to Allaah and to repel that which is disliked by Him” – Ibn Taymiyyah
Ibnul Qayyim mentions 4 types of Jihad:
    1. Jihad An Nafs – Striving against oneself
    2. Jihad Ash Shaytaan – Striving against Shaytaan
    3. Jihad Ahlul Kufr wa Ash Shirk – Striving against the People of Kufr and Shirk. It has rules and regulations which we will come to in Shaa Allaah.
    4. Jihad Ahlul Bidah wal Fisq – Striving against People of Innovation and Sins.
The greatest of these is Jihad An Nafs. Learning this religion, implementing and actualizing what you have learnt, calling to it and being patient upon it. As Allaah says:
“But strive against them with the utmost endeavour, with it (the Quran)” (25:52)
The Prophet implemented Jihad An Nafs whilst he was in Makkah before migrating to Madinah.
    Shaykh Zayd:
“Before carrying out Jihad with weapons, one must carry out Jihad of textual evidences from the Quran and Sunnah. This is given precedence over Jihad with weapons. The proof must be taught to the people and be established over the people first.”
When the Prophet sent Muadh to Yemen he told him to teach the people Tawheed first and if they accept this then to teach them the other affairs of the religion. He did not order him to fight with the sword first. This type of Jihad is the responsibility of the People of Knowledge.
Just as Jihad is of different types, likewise the people are of different types. And each type requires a different approach from the people of knowledge in relation to “Jihad Al Burhaan” upon them:
    1. People of Kufr and Shirk – The people of Knowledge clarify that which Islam is about, the foundations of Islam and Iman. Making it clear to them. Informing them of that which is prepared for those who die as Muslims and for those who die as non-Muslims.
    2. Hypocrites – Those who outwardly express Islam, yet inwardly they conceal a hatred and rejection of Islam. People of Knowledge explain to them that they must practice and accept Islam sincerely and wholly, expressing it externally through their righteous deeds.
    3. People of Innovation and Misguidance – Those who oppose Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah. People of knowledge explain to them the authentic teachings, and pure sunnah. They explain the danger and evil of innovating into the religion. So that the innovations that they are upon may be abandoned.
    4. People of Major sins – People of Knowledge clarify to them the evils of these actions, giving them glad tidings of the fact that Allaah will forgive their sins both Major AND Minor sins if they turn to Allaah sincerely in repentance. Allaah says:
“If you avoid the great sins which you are forbidden to do, We shall remit from you your (small) sins, and admit you to a Noble Entrance (i.e. Paradise).” (4:31)
On top of this Allaah will also replace their evil deeds with good deeds. As He says:
“Except those who repent and believe (in Islamic Monotheism), and do righteous deeds, for those, Allah will change their sins into good deeds, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful” (25:70)

  • 24 - Book of Tawheed - Sahih al-Bukhari - Abu Muadh Taqweem | Manchester
The 4 prohibitions as it relates to the Names and Attributes of Allaah Azza Wa Jal, they are:
“Ta’teel” – To reject the Names and Attributes
“Tahreef” – To distort the meanings of the Names and Attributes
“Takyeef” – To give descriptions to the Names and Attributes
“Tamtheel” – To liken the Names and Attributes to creation
In addition, Ustadh Abu Muadh gave us some principles to be used when dealing with the People of Innovation, for example:
    - It is not upon you to give proof for the default meaning of a name or attribute. (The Hand of Allaah is the Hand of Allaah, you do not need to give proof for this meaning as it is the origin!)
    - Ask them for any of the salaf who understood the Names and Attributes in the way they are trying to explain them.
He rounded up the lecture by reminding the brothers and sisters about the virtues of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah as well as some rulings related to it.

  • This Life Is A Test - Abu Humayd Saalim | Manchester
    This life is a test
    Part 1 of the Khutbah
Fear Allah O Muslims, know that Allah He created you to test you, to know that which one of you is the best in his actions.
This life that we live is a test from your Lord. Do you think that We created you in play, and that you will not be made to return back to us. Allaah is high above, all of His creation.
Do not waste your life and get caught up in the dunya as this will not aid you in passing this test.
Just as we study hard before taking a test in this life we should work equally as hard for the test of the hereafter. We only have one chance to pass this test unlike the tests of this life where you can resit.
We still have a chance to submit the correct answers as we still have time. Do not waste time as the past has already gone and cannot be changed. We do not know if we will reach the future so the only time we have is the present.
    Part 2 of the Khutbah
Know that the deadline of this test is death! Allah says, “Worship your Lord upon truth so that certainty comes to you.”
Everything will be shown to you one day in detail outlining all of your mistakes with nothing left out.
Pay heed as the reminder benefits the believer.
Allah tells the Messenger to mention, “This Qu'ran has been revealed to me that I may warn you and whomsoever it reaches.” This Qu’ran reached us and none of us has an excuse.
This Quran is either a proof for you or a proof against you.
