  • Beacons of Light - Sh Zayd & Sh Muhammad al-madkhalee | Manchester
    Shaykh Zayd’s Lecture
The Shaykh’s lecture was concerning knowledge and seeking it. From the benefits of the lecture:
    Strive for Knowledge!
    • Striving for knowledge is done in order to gain knowledge of the Shari’ah and to act upon it and to share it with the muslims and the non muslims. There are 2 types of “Striving” for knowledge;
    1. Striving in the heart – Having a great desire for seeking knowledge and spreading it
    2. Striving of the body – Physically travelling for knowledge and seeking out the means of gaining knowledge, for example, in our time using the internet to connect with scholars.
    Be with the ‘Ulamaa!
    • It is imperative that you connect yourself to the Ulamaa. “Ulamaa” – refers to scholars of the shari’ah and the sunnah, those who follow the Prophets and the righteous predecessors. Life cannot be upon goodness unless a person returns their affairs back to the scholars. Being with the scholars has different levels;
o Directly gaining from the scholar – Benefit from rectification of your belief, understanding what opposes the correct belief, knowing the major and minor shirk, bid’ah and disobedience (major and minor sins). This is the highest of the levels.
o Indirectly gaining from the scholar – Benefiting from the books and tapes of the scholars.
    Study your religion!
    • The reward for the one who spreads and the one who studies knowledge is the same. It is an obligation on the scholar to teach and it as an obligation upon the student to learn.
    Shaykh Muhammad’s Lecture
    Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee’s lecture revolved around the Middle Path and what opposes it. What follows is a brief account of what the Shaykh explained;
    Stay Away from Excessive Harshness!
    • Extremism (in being harsh) – in its correct meaning - is rejected in the Quran and the Sunnah. Nations before us were destroyed as a result of this excessive harshness and sternness. It is something Allaah warned from in the Quran and likewise the Prophet warned from this extremism.
    • The one who falls into extremism, in reality is claiming that there is a deficiency in the religion of Allaah Subhaanahu wa ta’aalah, and they are completing this deficiency. While Allaah says in the Qur’an:
“This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.”
    Beware of Being Lax!
    • However, it is important to differentiate between this blameworthy extremism and the extremism directed towards the people of innovation. As some people will try to use this statement of “Harshness” and direct it at those who refute the people of desires.
    • It is important not to be fooled by these claims, in reality, it is legislated to refute the person of innovation and make his affair known to the people.
    Follow the Middle Path!
    • The middle path - in between harshness and being lax with the religion.
    • The Middle path is to:
o Honour the Book of Allaah.
o Honour those who have the attributes of achieving Allaah’s Love.
o To fulfil the halal and avoid the haram and the doubtful.
    • Studying with the scholars will aid you to be upon the middle path.

  • 01 - Islam Forbids Extremism and Commands Gentleness - Uways at-Taweel | Manchester
The definition of extremism (Ghuloo) is to go beyond bounds regarding the legislation by adding affairs to the religion.
    Allaah says:
"Do not transgress the bounds of Allaah. The one who transgresses these bounds are the oppressors"
These bounds have been set for the wellbeing and safety of mankind. This legislation was established to preserve 5 key points:
    1) To preserve the religion.
    2) To preserve the intellect
    3) To preserve life
    4) To preserve the wealth of the people
    5) To preserve the honour of the people.
Ibn Al Qayyim: "An evil act calls to its sister of evil acts"
Regarding the legislation, the Qur'an and Sunnah, there is clear prohibition of extremism. From them, the statement of the Prophet Sallallaahu ALayhi Wa Sallam:
"Those who go into extremes will perish. Those who go into extremes will perish. Those who go into extremes will perish."
    Likewise, Abdullah Ibn Abbaas said:
"The Messenger said: "O Mankind, stay away from extremism in your religion, for indeed those who were before you were destroyed because of extremism""
Ibn Tayymiyyah said regarding this statement: "It is general to all aspects of extremism, in creed and action."
"And We have sent you not but as a mercy for the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 21:107
Sufyaan Ath Thawree (D97H) said: "Gentleness is to put the affairs in their rightful places. Putting stricness in its rightful place and putting kindness in its rightful place."
Others say: "Gentleness is that which Allaah has commanded and that which His Messenger Sallalaahu Alayhi Wa sallam has commanded"
    -Allaah loves gentleness.
The Prophet Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said to one of the companions:
"There are 2 charachteristics that you have that Allaah loves. Gentleness and Compassion.
-From Allaah's names is Ar-Rafiq (The Most Kind/Gentle)

  • 05 - Ignorance and its Effect upon Terrorism - Abu Hakeem | Manchester
The people of knowledge have discussed the deviant groups throughout time. The one characteristic that combines them all is ignorance and the following of desires. Ignorance maybe
    1. Jahl Baseed (slight ignorance), such as it occurring in a particular affair.
    2. Jahl Murakab – a firm belief that completely opposes reality.
    3. Doing something that one should not do whether his belief was correct or not.
    4. Jahaalah – when someone does something that he knows he should not be doing.
Ibn Qayyim said in his Nooniyyah:
    Ignorance is a deadly disease
Cured only by two matters similar in composition
Text from the Qur’an or Sunnah
And the doctor for that is the firmly grounded scholar
    Imam Ibn Qayyim also said:
    Ignorance is of two types,
    1. not having knowledge of beneficial truth
    2. absence of acting upon what beneficial knowledge necessitates
Both of them are ignorance, linguistically, culturally, legislatively and in reality.
Abu Hakeem then went on to describe 11 ways in which the khawaarij are ignorant of the religion along with athaar from the Salaf.

  • 04 - The Islamic Condemnation of Extremism and Terrorist Ideologies - Abu Khadeejah | Manchester
The salaf were the furthest from the acts of insurgency and treachery from the terrorists. It is not something that can be ascribed to any of the religions, let alone the religion of Islaam.
Shaykh Abdul Muhsin Al Abbaad: “How can the acts of terrorism; taking of lives, destruction of property etc. be attributed to any religion?”
Shaykh Ahmed An Najmi: “When a person puts on an explosive jacket, and sits in a car that drives slowly in the streets up until it enters a crowd of people, not expecting to die, nor expecting what is to come. Then blows himself killing dozens of people around him. What greater act of treachery is there than this?!”
The khawaarij display Islam openly but they hide their hypocrisy.
They claim they have license and justification for their terrorist acts from the Quran and the Sunnah.
Only a person with a misguided heart, or complete lack of intellect would support these kinds of actions.
Ibn Katheer (D774H): “If they (Khawaarij) gain strength, they would surely corrupt the whole of the earth - Iraq and Syria (Shaam). They would not leave a baby, not a male nor a female, alive. Because the people have caused corruption on the earth (according to their belief) and this corruption cannot be removed except by the mass murder.”
    (Al Bidaayah Wan Nihaayah)
It is as though he is alive today talking about the Khawaarij of today, whilst in fact he died 700 years ago! Such is the nature of the Khawaarij in every time.
If you sincerely want to know what “Salafism” truly is, then study the books of the salaf! Its simple! Do not waste your time looking at CNN and what the news reports say and look at the titles that terrorist groups give themselves! Look at the books of old, those who are salafi in reality follow the books of the salaf, thus you should look to these books!

  • 03 - The Historical Roots of al-Qaida and ISIS - Abu Iyad Amjad Rafiq | Manchester
It starts with Hassan al-Banna in the 1950’s until today (2017). Those who study the books of Aqeedah will understand that this is not new. They know what the guidance of Allah and His Messenger is relating to extremism and terrorism.
Using 6 sources: Qur’an and its Tafseer, Hadith, books of biography, books of history, book of Aqeedah and the books of sects – using all 6 together you will see that there is a model of how the khawaarij emerge, how they developed, how they became a military force, how they developed their own jurisprudence relating to war and peace.
This lecture is distilled from 70 pages of translated material. It will be divided into 3 sections:
    1. Aqeedah – the foundational principles that every Muslim believes in. They are agreed upon by all muslims except the deviant heretics.
    a. It will be about sin, oppression
    b. About rulership and tyranny
    2. The history of the Khawaarij (renegades / terrorists). How they appeared and the underlying reasons for this
    3. How the same ideology appeared in the 20th century.
An excellent 101 guide on the history, roots and origins of the khawaarij of our time - al-Qaida, ISIS and their likes.

  • 02 - Clarifying the Doubts of the Khawaarij - Abdulilah Lahmami | Manchester
The khawaarij have no Islamic knowledge and are a misguided group. This lecture explains their origins - in the teachings of Sayid Qutb in the 50's and 60's, a socialist who inspired most modern day terrorist groups including al-qaida and ISIS.
Many of the senior scholars do not consider the khawaarij to be Muslim. The speakers brings proofs from the Qur'an and Sunnah to refute them and refutes many of their figureheads by name.

  • 02 - Selected Points From the Correct Aqeedah - Abu Ismaeel Saalik | Manchester
    After establishing the understanding of Eemaan, Imam Harb bin Ismaaeel Al Kirmaani moved on to discussing the affair of Qadr (Divine Predecree), which is what was discussed in this lesson. From the benefits mentioned by the Imam in his book;
-It is from the 6 fundamental beliefs of Imaan.
-We must believe in its good and evil. Whether its large or small, sweet or bitter, whats open and whats hidden. It is all from Allaah, he has ordained it for His slaves. It does not bypass anybody nor does it escape them. Everyone is heading to that which they are created for. This is all from the justice of Allaah Azza wa Jal.
-Allaah commanded the pen to write everything that is to occur, 50000 years before the creation of the universe. Everything in relation to the Heavens and the Earth. Allaah had knowledge of all of this before it was brought into creation. A persons lifespan, his rizq (provisions, wealth, etc), his actions and whether he will be happy or miserable in this life and the Hereafter are all written and are part of belief in the Qadr.
-Those who opposed this correct belief are the innovated group known as the "Qadariyyah". They say the persons actions are not created by Allaah, a person creates their own actions. They have been named as the Fire Worshippers of this Ummah (As they claim there are 2 creators; the creator of good and the creator of evil). The Qadariyyah went even further, they say mankind are responsible for creating their own actions, attributing an Action of Allaah to the creation, this is shirk (associating partners with Allaah.)
-Another group who opposed this belief is the deviant group known as the "Jabarriyah". They say mankind is forced and have no free will over their actions. The refutation of this belief is the ayah:
"He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. " 2:286
    -The texts support the belief of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa'ah;
    Allaah says:
"Verily, We have created all things with Qadar" 54:4.
"And you will not, unless (it be) that Allah wills, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)." 81:29
-We say Allaah had knowledge of everything from the start of time to the end. Nothing will differ from what has been written. Mankind has free will over their actions, however this free will comes under the bounds of what Allaah has decreed.
-The pen wrote all of the affairs in Al Lawh Al Mahfoodh (The Preserved Tablet).
-Fornication, theft, murder, shirk and other sins and disobedience are all from the decree of Allaah and that which He has ordained. Despite this, none can use this as a proof against Allaah azza wa Jal. He is not questioned, rather we are questioned as per the ayah:
"He cannot be questioned as to what He does, while they will be questioned." 21:23
-Allaah did not leave us to our own intellects, rather He sent us Prophet's and Messengers and Books, making clear what is pleasing to Allaah and what is displeasing to Him. So we are all responsible for choosing to perform good or evil deeds. He sent a warner to every nation, the evidence is:
"Messengers as bearers of good news as well as of warning in order that mankind should have no plea against Allah after the Messengers" 4:165
"And there never was a nation but a warner had passed among them." 35:24
-Allaah knew who would be from the people of Paradise and who would be from the people of Hellfire.
-Allaah had fore knowledge of the creation, He knew the disobedience of the people of disobedience so He created the disobedience for them. He knew the obedience of the people of obedience so He created obedience for them.
-If everything has already been written, why should we do anything? The Prophet Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam was asked this and he said:
"No, perform deeds, for indeed the actions which the person is created for will be made easy for him"
Meaning, good deeds will be made easy for the person of good and vice versa. So we should strive to do good.
