Шумен

Районът около българския град Шумен е много хълмист, което украсява външността на града с подковообразен хребет. Селищата на територията на Шумен датират от древни времена и районът има пъстро минало.

Император Никифор опожарява града през 811 г., а по-късно бива убит от българския хан Крум. Градът живее в мир до 1087 г., когато е обсаден от Алексей I. В 14. в. Султан Мурад I предава града на Отоманската империя. За по-малко от сто години след завладяването на града, отоманците го унищожават. Впоследствие градът е построен наново на друго място, което служи като по-добро военно укрепление. В течение на 50 години руските войски се опитват да превземат града, но без успех. Ето как градът получава името си Гази.

В Шумен има много важни паметници. Един от най-важните е Шуменската крепост, датираща от българското средновековие. Отоманците я разрушават преди много векове, но впоследствие тя е частично възстановена. Крепостта се намира непосредствено извън очертанията на града.

Друг важен обект е Мадарският конник, един невероятен образец на средновековното скално изкуство. Той датира от 710 г. пр. н. е. и е признат за част от Световното наследство. Shumen

The region around the Bulgarian city of Shumen is very hilly, creating a horseshoe-shaped crest around the city’s exterior. Settlements at Shumen date back to ancient times, and the area has a checkered past.

In 811 Emperor Nicephorus burned the city before being killed by Krum of Bulgaria. The city saw peace until Alexius I besieged it in 1087. In the fourteenth century it was handed over to the Ottoman Empire by Sultan Murad I. The Ottomans demolished it less than a hundred years after it came under their rule. After that, the city was rebuilt in a new location that served better as a military stronghold. Over the course of fifty years, Russian armies tried to take the city, but to no avail. That’s how the city earned the name "Gazi."

There are a number of important monuments in Shumen. One of the most important is the Shumen Fortress, which dates back to medieval times in Bulgaria. The Ottomans destroyed it centuries ago, but it has since been partially restored. The fortress is located just outside of the city limits.

The Madara Horsemen, an incredible piece of medieval rock art, constitutes another important site. The area is also a World Heritage site and dates back to 710 AD. Other important areas around Shumen include the Holy Three Saints Cathedral and the Tombul Mosque, the largest in the country and one of the largest in the Balkan area.
