Knud den Store regerede Danmark, Norge og visse dele af Sverige og England.

Cnut the Great, also known as Canute, ruled Denmark, Norway, some parts of Sweden, and England.
His kingdom was sometimes referred to as the North Sea Empire or Anglo-Scandinavian Empire.
He was born around 985 or 995 and died in 1035.
Within just a few decades of his death, his legacy was mostly lost after his heirs died.
He was still Denmark’s prince when he conquered England in 1016, winning the throne there.
His victory followed hundreds of years of Viking activity in Europe’s northwestern parts.
When he ascended to Denmark’s throne in 1018, he brought the kingdoms of Denmark and England together.
He used the cultural bonds of customs and wealth instead of brutality to unite the two nations.
After many years in conflict with other powers throughout Scandinavia, he took Norway’s crown in 1028.
He also may have occupied the Swedish town of Sigtuna around this time, as coins were struck which indicated that he was king.
However, narrative records from the period do not tell of his holding of the area.
When Cnut died in 1035, his son Harthacnut succeeded him.
However, Harthacnut and the rest of his sons died within 10 years of his death.
Cnut’s only known daughter also died before she became an empress in Italy, effectively cutting Cnut’s royal line of succession off.
If all of Cnut’s heirs had not died within 10 years of his death, then his union of England and Scandinavia could have provided a foundation for a lasting union between these two parts of Europe.
