Lass die Maske trocknen.

Die Donau ist einer der wichtigsten Flüsse Deutschlands. Insgesamt ist sie mehr als 2850 Kilometer lang. Die Donau fließt durch acht Länder, bis sie in Rumänien ins Schwarze Meer mündet. Sie entspringt im Schwarzwald bei Donaueschingen und fließt in Deutschland durch die Bundesländer Ba­den-Württemberg und Bayern.

Passau ist die letzte deutsche Stadt am Ufer der Donau, direkt dahinter beginnt Österreich. Bevor die Donau Passau erreicht, fließt sie durch zahlreiche Städte und kleinere Orte. Viele davon sind bereits vor langer Zeit ent­standen. Die Stadt Regensburg zum Beispiel existiert bereits seit der Römerzeit. Dort gibt es seit dem 12. Jahrhundert eine Brücke über die Donau, die sogenannte Steinerne Brücke.

Im 17. Jahrhundert erlebte der Barock im Do­nauraum seine Blütezeit. Deshalb gibt es ent­lang des Flusses viele Kirchen aus dieser Zeit zu besichtigen. Ferner ist die Donau seit lan­ger Zeit ein wichtiges Thema in der Deut­schen Literatur. Viele berühmte Schriftsteller wie Goethe und Eichendorff erwähnen den Fluss in ihren Werken.

Nicht nur Menschen, auch viele verschiedene Pflanzen und Tiere sind im Donaugebiet zu Hause. Neben seltenen Vögeln und Insekten gibt es sogar Schlangen und andere kleine Reptilien, so viele wie nirgendwo sonst in Europa. Auch für Blumen, Sträucher und Bäume bietet die feuchte Landschaft einen ide­alen Lebensraum.

An der Donau entlang kann man auch gut Fahrrad fahren. Der Radweg entlang der Do­nau ist einer der beliebtesten in ganz Europa. Die Mehrheit der Radsportler ist im Sommer flussabwärts Richtung Osten unterwegs, um den Rückenwind auszunutzen. Eine Pause kann man in einem der zahlreichen Biergärten einlegen. Dort kann man ein kühles Bier oder eine leckere Fischmahlzeit genießen. Die meisten bieten auch Möglichkeiten zum Übernachten an.

Der Fischfang hat in den Donauregionen eine lange Tradition. Außerdem wird der frucht­bare Boden in der Nähe des Flusses landwirt­schaftlich genutzt. Hauptsächlich werden Mais und Getreide angebaut. Jedoch wird in manchen Bereichen in Österreich sogar Wein produziert. Die Weine aus der österreichi­schen Gegend Wachau sind sehr edel und unter Fachleuten weltweit bekannt.

The Danube is one of the most important riv­ers of Germany. All in all it is more than 2850 kilometers long. The Danube runs through eight countries until it opens out into the Black Sea. It has its source in the Black Forest nearby Donaueschingen and flows through federal states Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria in Germany.

Passau is the last German city on the shore of the Danube, Austria starts right behind it. Be­fore the Danube reaches Passau, it runs through numerous cities and small towns. Plenty of them have evolved a long time ago. The city of Regensburg for example has existed already since Roman times. Since the twelfth century, Regensburg features a bridge over the Danube, the so-called Stony Bridge.

In the 17th century, the Baroque had its bloom in the area of the Danube. Therefore a lot of churches of this period can be visited along the river. Furthermore the Danube has been an important topic in German literature for a long time. Many famous writers, such as Goethe and Eichendorff, mention the river in their works.

Not only human beings, also a lot of different plants and animals have their home in the Danube area. Besides birds and insects there are even snakes and other small reptiles, as many as nowhere else in Europe. The humid territory is offering an ideal living space for flowers, bushes and trees as well.
