    Teilchen
Doch was sind Teilchen eigentlich genau?

    Pastries
Germany is well known for its numerous types of bread. Torts and cakes like the Black Forest cherry-cake, or the Frankfurter Crown Cake are also quite famous outside Germany's borders. I think, though, that the secret rulers of Germany's bakeries are neither bread nor cakes, but the smaller pastries. When a friend invites you over for coffee, it's not often that you bring an entire cake from the baker, and bread isn't really suitable. Pastries are exactly what's needed in such a situation. With a good mix, there's something for everyone and all at the coffee table will be satisfied.
But what are pastries exactly? Pastries are those tasty baked goods made of fluffy dough, most of which are decorated with icing or at least icing sugar. They're available in so many different types with the most diverse ingredients, that you could certainly eat a different one every day for two weeks without eating the same one twice!
My favorite are danishes. They are yeast-risen pastries that are adorned with sweet cream, custard, or fruit. Also quite popular are cherry-pockets and apple-pockets. They're a pastry pocket filled with either cherry or apple compote. Simply delicious!
And of course we can't forget snails! Don't worry, I don't mean the animals. This sort of pastry is called a snail because the dough is curled around so that it has the shape of a snail shell. There are cinnamon-snails, raisin-snails, nut-snails, poppy-snails, marzipan-snails, and many more! And of course the streusel-snail with icing is important to mention. Although they don't have the typical snail shape, they still taste very good. As a [...]
