Learn the English Phrases TO PULL YOUR WEIGHT and TO PULL A FAST ONE

Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases TO PULL YOUR WEIGHT and TO PULL A FAST ONE

In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase, to pull your weight. When you pull your weight, it means that you are on a team and you are doing the same amount of work as the rest of the team. Or you are working with a group of people and you do the same amount of work as everyone else. So when you pull your weight, it's a good thing. Sometimes when you are on a sports team everyone else plays really hard and you don't and we would say that you aren't pulling your weight. Sometimes at work you're on a team with three people and everyone does the same amount of work. We would then say that you are pulling your weight. So it's always good to pull your weight. People really appreciate it when they work with other people that pull their weight. I think it's super important. I've worked with people that don't pull their weight and that can be really, really frustrating.

The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase to pull a fast one. When you pull a fast one on someone it means you play a trick on them or you play a practical joke on them. Sometimes I pull a fast one on Jen. I play little tricks on Jen but usually in a good way. I do it like this. Sometimes there's a job that Jen needs to do on the farm and I will tell her that the job's not done even though I already did the job so that when she goes to do the job she sees that it's done and then she kind of laughs. So I let her think she still has to do the job even though I already did it. I do this sometimes with our vehicles too. I'll pull a fast one on Jen. I'll tell her that the van needs gas. So if she's going to the grocery store I tell her you need to stop and get gas as well even though I already filled it up. And then when she gets in to leave she notices that the fuel gauge or the gas gauge is on full and I think that makes her smile. So sometimes I pull a fast one on Jen. I played little tricks but in a good way.

So to review, when you pull your weight it means you do your job well, you do the same amount of work as everyone else in the group or on the team. And when you pull a fast one on someone it means you trick them or you play a practical joke on them.

But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Tan. And Tan says, hi, Bob, sorry, my bad I haven't had time to watch your videos in recent days because I've been preparing for my examination. Thank you once again for your awesome lecture. And my response is, I understand life gets busy sometimes. I wish you all the best. So thank you Tan for that comment. And that's absolutely no problem. There is no obligation to watch these videos. It's totally understandable. Life does get busy sometimes.

I have the same thing, even though it looks like I easily put out all these videos. Sometimes it's a little challenging because life gets busy, right? There's things to do. Places to go, people to see, we sometimes say in English. So totally no problem. And I do want to wish you all the best on your examination. I'm not sure if you did it already or if it's coming up?
