Truva, Türkiye’de İda Dağı yakınlarında yer alır. Kent, İlyada Destanı gibi pek çok kaynakta anlatılan Truva Savaşı’yla ünlüdür. Kent ayrıca bazı tarihi yazılarda İlium ismiyle bilinir. 1998 yılında UNESCO, kentin arkeolojik kazılarını Dünya Mirasları listesine eklemiştir.
Tarihi Truva şehri sahilden birkaç mil içerde bir tepenin üzerinde yer alır. Bölgenin tarihçesi 4,000 yıl önceye kadar uzanmakta ve dünyanın en önemli arkeolojik alanlarından biri olduğu kabul edilmektedir. Bölgedeki ilk kazılar, 1871 tarihinde yapılmıştır. Tarihi eserler, kentin M.Ö. 4’üncü binyılın ikinci yarısında ve duvarın M.Ö. 3000 yıllarında inşaa edildiğini belirtir. Arkeolojik alan M.Ö. 3000 yılında başlayıp M.Ö. 1000 yılına kadar uzanan dokuz farklı tarihi kalıntı katmanı oluşturmuştur. Tarihsel süreçte pek çok olay şehri yıkmış veya onu oldukça tahrip etmiştir. Bu çeşitli katmanlar, 4000 yıllık süreçteki çeşitli dönemler hakkında önemli bilgiler taşımaktadır.
Ünlü Truva Savaşı, M.Ö. 1300lü yılların başından M.Ö. 1100lü yılların sonu arasında bir yerde gerçekleşmiştir. Arkeologlar bu kalıntıları, bölgedeki arkeolojik kalıntıların yedinci katmanı olan Truva VII olarak tanımlamıştır. Truva Savaşı ve Ortaçağ’daki Yunan Epik Döngüsü, Truva’yı diğer bölgelerin kuruluş hikayeleriyle bağlantılı olan efsaneleriyle ünlü yapmıştır. Troy
Troy is located in Turkey next to Mount Ida.
The city is most famous as the location of the Trojan War, which is described in many sources, most famously in Homer’s Iliad.
The city has also been known by the name Ilium in other historical texts.
In 1998, UNESCO added the city’s archeological digs to its World Heritage list of important historical sites.
The historic city of Troy sat on a hill a couple of miles from the coastline.
The site’s history dates back four thousand years, and it is one of the world’s most well-known archeological locations.
The first excavation at the site was done in 1871.
Artifacts date the city to the latter half of the fourth millennium B.C and the wall to about 3000 B.C.
The archeological field has established nine different layers of ruins, starting at 3000 B.C. and going up to the first century BC.
Various events throughout history destroyed or severely damaged the city,
and the various layers hold important information about various periods throughout the last four thousand years.
The famous Trojan War has been dated to sometime between the early 1300s to the late 1100s B.C.
Archeologists place the ruins from this date in history in Troy VII, which is the seventh layer of archeological ruins at the site.
The Trojan War and the Greek Epic Cycle from Medieval times made Troy famous, creating other myths that relate founding stories of other places.
Even Norse and Icelandic legends trace the region’s ancestors to Troy.
