Episode 4 of Where Passion Meets Education (WPME) host Sandeep Dutt in conversation with Sunil Malhotra.
Sunil Malhotra’s entrepreneurial experience spans Design, Manufacturing and Information Technology. A thought leader in Design Thinking and Exponential Transformation, Sunil founded Ideafarms to bring industrial design to ICT.
On the 7th of July 2024 Sunil joined us at My Good School and talked about his latestbook YOGAi, a result of the author’s professional experience, embellished by interactions with Dr. Karan Singh, Ervin Laszlo, Satish Kumar, John Maeda, Salim Ismail and other luminaries, making it a well-rounded treatise on the interplays of Yoga and Ai. When the dust settles on the hype around Ai, the world is likely to remain wildly unpredictable. Use this book as a starting point for understanding the human quest for truth, and creating technologies wisely to make our lives richer and the world a better place.
"You teach best what you most need to learn." ~Richard Bach
Sunil and Sandeep talk about learning, thinking and growing up. Eastern philosophy and Western thought, how the two work together in the world today, and why Indian philosophy is way advanced. He believes that knowledge must be free to flow and help build a world of higher-order thinking, unlike in the West, where ownership of knowledge is the key to their profiteering and intellectual property is treated as the wealth of people and organisations. The oldest Upnishads may be as old as 8th century BC, and this ancient reservoir of knowledge will always be the core of any learning for civilisations to come, their message and understanding has not been truly captured in the unlimited number of books and western literature.
The Upanishads present a vision of an interconnected universe with a single, unifying principle behind the apparent diversity in the cosmos, any articulation of which is called brahman. Within this context, the Upanishads teach that brahman resides in the atman, the unchanging core of the human individual. - Wikipedia
Starting from Upanishads, to schools, how children learn and what is the way forward for education the podcast in a matter of 15 plus mintutes touches on the core of the human learning systems as they exist today and what lies ahead. We need to unlearn first, and not be hostage to the industrial age school system, which much like an industrial proecss indoctrinates and robs every indivudal of #JoyOfLearning.
Design as a philosophy, as a tool, is with every individual, a true designer just delves within, we design our own lives and move on. What bubbles up, passion needs to come within yourself, mind is all powerful, free ourselves and use the mind as an insturment, true passion evolves.
Freeing the mind, is that education? This pushed Sunil into another world and the coversation is all yours to listen to!
‘Victims of education’, the problem is that the education system uses words, that only gives us literacy. You need to learn for life, we must demolish the entire school system.
Talking about teaching and learning, does learning come before teaching? It obviously does and Sunil corroborates how. From mother tongue and perfect communication before going to school to the vagaries of the system, there is a need to unlearn. Signs of optimism and why Sunil wrote the book YOGAi.
"We can’t change the direction of the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”
YOGAi makes Ai approachable by contextualising the evolution of technology. These technologies have crept upon us, even without our noticing, and yet when it comes to leveraging them, we still have a tendency to shy away. Technologies with broad, general applications in their early stages take an inordinate amount of time to emerge, but eventually their power becomes self-evident, and they take hold over society in disruptive ways.Another goal of YOGAi is to make you accessible to yourself by contextualising the evolution of the human mind. Attention is brought to Yoga, narrowly understood as physical exercises from India, which in fact are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Yoga serves as a powerful tool for self-discovery, enabling individuals to explore their innermost selves and cultivate a deeper understanding of their identities, purpose, and connections to the world. Ultimately, the convergence of Yoga and Ai represents a pathway towards realising human potential and creating a more equitable and sustainable world for all.
Let us togther cocreate space for passion and learning to blossom, this would be the true meaning of education, and we will be fair to the young people whose future is at stake in the hands of the policy makers and institutions that are more business models and less about #JoyOfLearning.

Note-taking and sharing reflections are two different activities with distinct purposes: by Learning Forward India Foundation.Recording your thoughts and spreading your insights are unique tasks, each with its intentions and outcomes.

* Focuses on capturing facts, concepts, and details.
* Helps with memory retention, review, and reference.
* It is often done individually.
Sharing reflections: - Involves sharing thoughts, opinions, or insights about what has been learned.
* Focuses on making connections, analysing, and evaluating information.
* Encourages critical thinking, synthesis, and application.
* Often done collaboratively or publicly, such as in a discussion or blog post.

Snehlata at The English Book Depot, India's premier bookstore since 1923.

Passion, purpose, and what is work?Work, eat, sleep, recharge, and get to work again! The world is all about consumption; for Amardeep, Passion must work like the sea waves—ebb and tide. He shares what Passion means for him, his life, and his work, leaving a poignant message for young people. Amardeep is a harbinger of ‘Oneness’ and shares Guru Nanak’s life and work. He moved from being a banker to an avid traveller, tracing the footsteps of Guru Nanak.
We must go beyond the life of building bank balances to find fulfilment in life, what Passion means to us, and any activity that resonates within oneself and acts as a catalyst for developing one’s mind to achieve what your heart wishes. We pursue things close to us, do not mindlessly follow emotions, take activities, and yes, you are uncontrollable beyond reasoning. Overcome barriers, and when you pursue a passion, you will unfurl your life's purpose.
Where do education and Passion intervene?PassionBeyond formal education, you must have a lifelong pursuit. Passion pushes you into a mode of self-learning without any expectations. Do not follow Passion; developing passions is essential; you must become the Passion. Amardeep picks up photography, musicology, and languages, and he is sure that you reach a pinnacle and stop; moving on and layering passions is the key to always staying in every learning mode; this is the true purpose of education: being a lifelong learner. Energy shuts down doors, and behold, grace will come to you, and you will work for your holistic development. A Ven Diagram of Education and Passion will create a new ‘You’ at the intersection.
Looking back at his life at school He may be an average student; his report cards may even show below-average grades. Excellence will come only when you turn your entire attention to it. Worldly aspects keep going, picking up the layers and growing up to a humble and successful life. Young people must understand that life is long and not get perturbed by their current state or time; they must keep collecting the moments and build a chain of thought and action to make their lives.
Please tune in for the joy and successes and reflect on life as more than being educated at school. Sandeep uses the metaphor of building a chain from the moments of life to explain how Passion fuels life and how we move up to find our spiritual selves.
Oneness In Diversity Research Foundation supports My Good School; Amardeep is our visiting Professor! He mentors young people at our school and attends school with us once a month. We screen an episode of his docu-series and reflect on the teachings of Guru Nanak as an integral part of our core curriculum at My Good School.

Welcome to the second episode of Where Passion Meets Education (WPME), a podcast from the heart with success stories about schools and schooling.
Christa Campsall of My Guide Inside shares how her passion and the making of My Guide Inside gave her tremendous inner joy—not just vanilla happiness. The three Principles she mentions—your Mind, Thought, and Action—make you. To find your passion come to life, at the heart is the heart!
Christa Campsall, BEd, Dip|SpEd, MA, is a teacher who engages with students and educators at home and in the global community. She enjoys coaching, leading, and supporting the implementation of My Guide Inside (MGI) in classrooms and school systems.
In the podcast, you will learn that you have a guide inside you. Listen to your inner self—you may call it gut feel—and this is where passion is born. Twain shall meet, the inside and outside, for the fire of the love within to come alive. Your self-coaching, leading and supporting the implementation will bring joy to your learning.
‘Natural wisdom’ is the apple of the eye part of our show, as if it were a video! Looking back, she would do it. Christa mentions chapters of her life; she did a fabulous job as a special educator. Thus, the story is about one young person who was very special, and she was able to help that one child with ‘where passion meets education’.
The idea of offering the 3 Principles Curriculum as a guide for the growing-up years is unique. The Special student was passionate about studying the brain; she would do anything to make her passion come to life. Christa’s course helped her find herself by reading true stories and case studies. The girl was able to further her studies and is today in year four of her graduation—her fourth year in university.
My Guide Inside brings out the best in all learners.
“The principles are . . . universal and ingrained just in a way that I live my life. . . . I almost don’t even need to go back and reflect because it applies to every aspect of my reality. The fundamental spirit of what we were learning [three years ago in high school] from My Guide Inside is both awareness of self and compassion for others.” University Student, Canada, 2021
Natural Wisdom is the only way to build a narrative where passion meets education. Understand your inner core—this takes a while—and stand on solid ground, which is valid universally. Passion keeps growing and is beyond culture; it is a universal understanding.

‘Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right-doing, there is a field; I will meet you there.’
The quote by Rumi pretty much sums up the idea behind ‘Rockstar’. Rockstar is a beautiful reminder that life is filled with love and loss. No matter how much we try to control our fate, it’s all written down for us. We can enjoy our time with the people we love and look back at those beautiful memories of love and happiness. After all, life is too short to cry over lost things.
Join Simar and Oshi this month as they discuss about the hidden beauty of Rockstar. It is a magical tale of a carefree youngster searching for ‘pain’ to create meaningful music. His discovery that life is an epitome of pain, a symphony of love, loss, regret and a few happy memories.
