Duolingo is a reasonably convenient way to get exposure to a language. I actually enjoy the short lessons and like how it utilizes the same sentence patterns for each lesson. It would be nice to have some short stories to read periodically, but overall the app is quite good.

Surprisingly, I remembered more of the vocabulary than I forgot, despite a three month break from Norwegian.

Whoa!  I did not expect that score! It has been so long since I did anything "official" in the German language. So, it's my first time to take an online German placement test. I visit the Deutsche Welle website at least monthly just to read something in German. I recently was poking around the site and was reminded that they have German material for learning the language. There I saw the Placement Tests. I decided to take the A1 test. 

After learning German in Austria some years ago and basically not studying it since then, although I regularly read and listen in German to maintain, I was curious how I'd do.
