The wisdom behind fasting and important rulings, a khuṭbah by Ustādh Rayaan Barker (hafidhahullāh)
• Fasting Ramaḍān is obligatory on every sane, pubescent Muslim; the sick, travellers, and women in menses or postnatal bleeding make up the days later
• The wisdom is taqwā and istiqāmah, to be kept after Ramaḍān; fasting means leaving sin in speech and action, not only food and drink
• The intention: made each night before Fajr, or one intention for the whole month (Ibn ʿUthaymīn, raḥimahullāh)
• What breaks the fast and what does not: forgetful eating, nutritious versus non-nutritious injections, relations, and vomiting
• Suḥūr: its blessing, delaying it, dates, a sip of water if need be, no special duʿāʾ, and no basis for stopping ten minutes before Fajr
• A reminder to reject terrorism as ḥarām and to protect the youth from the thought of the Khawārij
