Protecting And Nurturing The Muslim Household, a lecture by Ustādh Rayaan Barker (hafidhahullāh)
• The bringing up of a child begins when a person looks for marriage: look for a good and righteous spouse
• Islām wants everyone to understand their roles in nurturing the household, from before marriage to the birth and growth of a child
• The basis of protecting the family in times of fitnah is to seek knowledge first
• Ibn ʿUmar: discipline your child, for you will be questioned about him
• How to discipline a child: make duʿāʾ, be just between the children, care for their character, keep them away from idle talk, music and innovation, and teach them with effort
• Accustom them to waking for the last part of the night, keep them from excessive eating, sleeping and sinning, and from corrupting companions
• Ibn ʿUthaymīn: when instructing your child, mention the evidence, so you acquire both discipline and ittibāʿ
