How should Christians view the day of the Lord? What kind of lives should we live until the second coming of Jesus? In 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, we see the truth of Christ's return to judge unbelievers and lavish blessing upon those who belong to Him. These truths are given to us that we might be encouraged and built up to be faithful as we look to that day!

How does the second coming of Jesus give hope and encouragement to believers today? In 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, we get to see Scripture's encouragement for believers in light of the return of Christ. We are given hope, truth, and encouragement through the promise of Christ returning to make all things new!

How does the righteousness of God's character, the truth of His Word, and the glory of His work impact believers in times of suffering and trial? In Psalm 119:137-144, we get to see the power of divine truth to tune our hearts as we live in a fallen world. May we be encouraged to faithfulness for the glory of our God!

In God's call of sanctification, we as believers learn to love our fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord. We seek each other's good in Christ and seek to live a quiet life pleasing in His sight. What does it mean to aspire to live quietly? We see this area unpacked in 1 Thessalonians 4:9-12!

God gives light and truth to His people through His Word. Verses 129-136 of Psalm 119 show us the treasure of unfolding the truth of Scripture for more understanding. We are to study it, treasure it, and by God's grace both understand it and live it out for the glory of His name!

God's will for each believer is to be made more like the Lord Jesus through His work of sanctification. To that end, we are to abstain from sexual immorality and to use our bodies for the glory of God. How does the Scripture define sexual immorality? What does it mean for the believer to live a life of pure devotion to God? We see these truths over the course of 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8. Here we see both the call to abstain from sinful distortions of God's design and the goodness of His design in the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman united for life to His glory.

How can a Christian know when they are trusting God? How can they know if their hearts are looking to Him in humble dependence even in the hard situations of life? Over verses 121-128 of Psalm 119, we see the Word of God emphasizing the steadfast love of God and the heart of humility we are to have to be taught by Him. These are two marks of spiritual health in the life of a believer who is walking through suffering with a heart of dependence and submission to the Lord.

What is God's will for our lives? 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 verses 1-3 gives a resounding answer showing us that His will is our sanctification. God is at work in the lives of believers making them more like the Lord Jesus Christ. He is bringing them into greater submission to His Word, He is changing their heart's desires, and He is bringing glory to His name through His people. May we be encouraged by this passage to pursue His pleasure in our lives!

How do we as believers respond when we see evil and sin in the world? What does it mean for us to run to God as our refuge? How do we find hope in the Word? Verses 113-120 of Psalm 119 show us how to look to the Lord and find great hope through the Scripture as we live in a fallen world. May we be encouraged by these truths!

What does it mean for a church to grow? How does the Scripture call on churches to grow? In this sermon, we dive into 1 Thessalonians chapter 3 verses 11-13 to see the work of Christ in growing His church. He grows His people in love, in submission to the truth, and in living holy lives for the glory of His name. May we be encouraged to pursue Christ-honoring growth in the local church!
