The hours and days between the death and resurrection would be the darkest followers of Jesus would ever know. There is nothing for the Christian without a living and reigning Christ. The disciples were in despair, yet we know the rest of the story, and we rejoice along with them as we read of them encountering the risen Christ.

We return to our study of the Gospel According to Matthew and the Sermon on the Mount.  Here Jesus continues His radical call to discipleship that those who embrace the Kingdom of Heaven must accept.  Here, Jesus speaks to adultery and the breaking of the one-flesh marriage covenant that it represents.

The Gospel is not simply a nice story to hear, or even something that is important to believe is true. The Gospel is a message that demands a response. You cannot help but make a response to the message of the Gospel. You will either continue in rebellion against your Creator, you will remain unsure and reflect and ponder, or you will repent and believe.
